On #IWD2018, echoing the UNDP Administrator, Our Country Director George Conway says the Time Is Now for Somalia on gender equality
The promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women is central to the mandate of UNDP Somalia and intrinsic to our development approach. This includes advocating for women’s and girls’ equal rights, combatting discriminatory practices and challenging the roles and stereotypes that lead to inequalities and exclusion. We have made good progress towards gender equality and women’s empowerment in Somalia, but there is still so much more to do
First ever social innovation camp launches in Mogadishu
The first ever “Innovate for Somalia” social innovation camp run by UNDP in partnership with the Federal Government, opened in Mogadishu in October, which saw over 50 young Somali men and women brainstorm to come up with business ideas to improve the Somali dairy industry. The event, which ran over 7 days, concluded in a competitive finale with the young people forming teams to pitch their ideas to a panel of judges and win support for their idea.
