    Holding hearings years from now w/the makers of these technologies will not restore the lives of African American & Latinos ruined by racial bias embedded in law enforcement products that will carry the imprimatur of "neutrality." Companies like Axon must address this now.

    Important here is to see this as an issue of A.I. ethics. The responsibility for ensuring racial equity & fairness in our society is a shared one. It does not just fall to civil rights activists & attys. Those working in the technology space must accept their share.

    And yeah, I know it sounds “wonky.” But it’s about the boring little subject of our responsibility to stop the dissemination of products that embed the same racial bias we see in policing today into technologies that will be used by police & presumptively deemed “neutral.”
