Mosul (/moʊˈsuːl/; Arabic: الموصل – al-Mawṣil (local pronunciation: el-Mōṣul); Syriac: ܢܝܢܘܐ – Nînwe; Kurdish: مووسڵ – Mûsil) is a city of normally about two and a half million people (2014 est.) in northern Iraq, illegally occupied since 10 June 2014 by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.
Mosul is completely ruled by the Islamic State terror group headquartered in Al-Raqqah, Syria. The legitimate government of Iraq stopped paying salaries soon after the city was overrun by militants. (that ISIL allegedly exploited by stealing a generous percentage) which it had previously paid to city workers including nurses, doctors,
Located some 400 km (250 mi) north of Baghdad, the original city stands on the west bank of the Tigris River, opposite the ancient Assyrian city of Nineveh on the east bank, but the metropolitan area has grown to encompass substantial areas on both the "Left Coast" (east side) and the "Right Coast" (west side) as the two banks are described in the local language.
ITV News is the branding of news programmes on the British television network ITV. ITV has a long tradition of television news. Independent Television News (ITN) was founded to provide news bulletins for the network in 1955, and has since continued to produce all news programmes on ITV. The channel's news coverage has won awards from the Royal Television Society, Emmy Awards and BAFTAs. Between 2004 and 2008, the ITV Evening News held the title of "RTS News Programme of the Year". The flagship ITV News at Ten has won numerous BAFTA awards, and also being named "RTS News Programme of the Year" in 2011 and 2015.
ITV News has the second-largest television news audience in the United Kingdom, second only to BBC News (other broadcasters such as Sky News, Channel 4 News and 5 News count their audiences in hundreds of thousands). However, its £43 million annual news budget is dwarfed by that of the publicly funded BBC, which spends £89.5 million annually on news-gathering, plus a further £23.1 million on its rolling news channel.

The scene of the most violent urban warfare since World War II, Mosul suffered extensive damage. In the west of the city – among the ruins and landmines, and the group trauma of its inhabitants – life is gradually returning. The bombings of the US-led coalition practically razed Mosul’s old city, now a no-go zone. Beneath the tons of rubble lie thousands of landmines and hundreds of bodies. The Al-Nuri Mosque, one of Mosul’s most famous monuments, was destroyed by the jihadists, who preferred to blow ...
The liberated city of Mosul is adjusting to life after three years of IS rule, but how can its people rebuild from devastation? For some, the answer lies in the art and music forbidden under IS. In a country dominated by Shia, the majority Sunni city of Mosul sat at the centre of Iraq's explosive ethnic and religious divides. The divisions opened the door to IS in June 2014, when around 500,000 fled the city during the takeover. Under IS suppression every part of a female body, including the eyes, ha...
In July 2017, so-called Islamic State's militants were forced out of the Iraqi city of Mosul after a nine-month battle which left at least 10,000 people dead. Six months on, bodies still lie in the streets of a city that is more a place of the dead than the living. The ITV News team travelled to Mosul to witness the devastation residents have been left to deal with. Our correspondent Emma Murphy said: "Finding someone to tell their story proved almost impossible. In our days filming we came across more bodies than we did people. All this time on, the dead remain in the broken shells of homes where they were either executed by IS or killed in airstrikes." • Subscribe to ITV News on YouTube: http://bit.ly/2lOHmNj • Get breaking news and more stories at http://www.itv.com/news Follow ITV ...

# 12 Things NOT To Do in Iraq By: http://www.destinationtips.com/ Iraq is a lovely place. So know these 12 Things NOT to Do, before you go! 1. Try Not to stand out Rather than driving fast, surrounded by bodyguards try to blend in as much as possible. Women should dress in local fashion and men should grow out their facial hair. 2. Don't Step On Bread! Bread is a highly treasured food in Iraq. If you happen across a fallen hunk in the street don't step on it or touch it with your feet! 3. Don't Visit the Borders. Don't travel near the Syrian, Turkish, or Iranian borders. You may encounter large refugee flows. 4. Don't Bring Bad Luck. When Iraqis buy a new appliance they will crack an egg over it to wash away any bad luck! Iraqis are very superstitious. 5. Don't Get Jumpy! You oft...
