Artist KimmiLee Todicso restores an Edwardian home to its original charm

The home

A renovated four-bedroom Edwardian villa in Melbourne's east.

Who lives here

Artist KimmiLee Todicso with her husband Steven, who owns a printing company, their teenage daughter Jasmine and dogs Harry and Chelsea.

"Our Maltese rescue dog Chelsea is 12 but she still acts like a puppy," says KimmiLee.

What we did

"The house had been decorated in a mockTudor style – all heavy beams and dark wood, and its beautiful Edwardian features stripped out," says KimmiLee.

"Steven trained as a carpenter, and as it wasn't our first renovation we knew what needed to be done. It's taken 10 years of hard work, in two stages, but now we've given it back its original charm."

My favourite room

"My art studio. I spend most days there, creating artworks and listening to music. The dogs know as soon as I've finished breakfast that it's studio time and they race upstairs to hang out there."

"I'm obsessed with shiny things – sequins, metallic fabrics and threads, jewels and accessories," says KimmiLee. "I should have been called Magpie."

The 'hood

"Burwood is great – it feels like the inner city without the congestion."

Entrance to the home is via a lush, plant-lined walkway, the greenery common to the area. "Burwood is so close to everything, and very leafy."

Future plans

"To enjoy all the hard work put in since we first purchased it."

Best advice

"There is a fine line between eclectic and cluttered – we try to refrain from making those tempting purchases that may overwhelm the space."
