Hazardous Surf Warning for New South Wales
Issued at 4:21 am EST on Wednesday 18 April 2018
for the period until midnight EST Thursday 19 April 2018.
Surf and swell conditions are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities
such as rock fishing, boating, and swimming in the following areas.
Wednesday 18 April
Hazardous Surf Warning for:
Byron Coast, Coffs Coast, Macquarie Coast, Hunter Coast, Sydney Coast,
Illawarra Coast and Batemans Coast
Thursday 19 April
Hazardous Surf Warning for:
Byron Coast, Coffs Coast, Macquarie Coast, Hunter Coast, Sydney Coast,
Illawarra Coast and Batemans Coast
Safety Advice
NSW Police Force, Marine Area Command advise that:
- People should consider staying out of the water and avoid walking near
surf-exposed areas.
- Rock fishers should avoid coastal rock platforms exposed to the ocean and seek
a safe location that is sheltered from the surf.
- Boaters planning to cross shallow water and ocean bars should consider changing
or delaying their voyage.
- Boaters already on the water should carry the appropriate safety equipment and
wear a lifejacket.
- Boaters should remember to log on with their local Marine Rescue radio base,
via VHF Radio or the Marine Rescue APP, and consider their safety management
plan.
The next warning will be issued by 5:00 pm EST Wednesday.

The hemispheric long wave pattern has remained stable in recent weeks. There are five main troughs. Currently the most significant troughs are near the longitudes of South Africa, the Indian Ocean, Western Australia, the south Pacific, and the southeast Pacific.
Summary:
Over southern and eastern Australia the cold front events with potential to bring widespread rain are now expected about 3 May to 7 May, 10 May to 14 May, and 19 May to 23 May. Rain events originating in the tropics and moving south are possible about 22 April to 26 April, 8 May to 12 May, and 16 May to 20 May. Over Western Australia the strongest cold fronts should occur about 28 April to 2 May, 15 May to 19 May, and 19 May to 23 May.
