20 years of partnershipDear colleagues, partners and friends, It has been a wonderful, intense and productive 20 years of work with you, and we are grateful for that experience. Our UNDP programme contributed to various initiatives at the federal, regional and local levels, providing policy advice, technical assistance and capacity support to the government and civil society partners. Over the years, UNDP in Russia worked to address a wide array of sustainable human development issues - from the socioeconomic recovery of regions affected by the Chernobyl nuclear accident to creating employment opportunities in urban and rural communities, from enhancing local governance capacities to HIV/AIDS prevention. In the final phase, the UNDP programme in Russia focused on addressing global environmental challenges - conservation of biodiversity, climate change mitigation and resilience, and sound management of international waters. The legacy of this programme will be continued by local institutions and organisations responsible for protecting the unique and globally important natural endowment of Russia. In 2015, the partnership between UNDP and the Russian Federation focused on providing assistance to other countries. The Partnership Framework Agreement signed by UNDP’s Administrator Helen Clark and the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov, marked the beginning a long-term strategic partnership for achieving Sustainable Development Goals globally.
The Russia-UNDP Trust Fund for Development supports development cooperation activities around the world, currently focusing on Eastern Europe and Central Asia. It provides funding for projects in sustainable management of water resources, disaster risk reduction and recovery, climate change, and sustainable energy.
