Students who had not considered studying at university can experience university life through workshops and activities run by our academic colleges.
Legal studies
The Sir Zelman Cowen Centre and College of Law and Justice at Victoria University runs a number of school education and careers programs to expose students to a range of careers in the wider justice and legal sector.
Moot competition
The Michael Kirby Contract Law Moot Competition is a fascinating opportunity for students interested in legal studies to experience a simulation of live courtroom proceedings at our City Queen Campus.
Students are invited to attend as observers or volunteers.
Civics education network – Mix-it-Up
In 2018 the Sir Zelman Cowen Centre will be running ‘Mix-it-Up’, an intercultural civics education network for students in years 10-11 in the Brimbank local government area.
Schools in the Brimbank area are encouraged to contact the Mix-it-Up Coordinator at sophie.moore@vu.edu.au to find out more about the program.
Headstart in law
Headstart is a one day workshop for year 11 students interested in legal studies and learning more about the wider legal and justice related professions.
The workshop will be held at the Sir Zelman Cowen Centre, in the heart of Melbourne's legal district.
Individual workshops at schools will not be available in 2018.
Learn, Experience, Access Professions (LEAP)
The Sir Zelman Cowen Centre was the lead agency delivering LEAP into Law for five years. Funding for LEAP concluded in 2017, so the program is no longer running.
Students and teachers can still access the LEAP website for:
- resources about the professions
- study options.
Schools previously involved in the LEAP into Law program will be invited to attend Headstart Day in Term 3/4 in 2018.
