Hanoi University

Hanoi University in Vietnam has specialised in delivering foreign language education since 1959. In 1999 Victoria University and Hanoi University developed a joint program to deliver postgraduate studies for Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).

This 18-year partnership has helped improve the English language skills of Vietnamese teachers, with more than 1500 Hanoi University students graduating with a Master of TESOL degree.

The partnership also serves to further the Vietnamese Ministry of Higher Education ‘2020’ project, a recent major initiative to improve and standardise the English skills of Vietnamese teachers and lecturers.

Master of TESOL

Hanoi University

The VU-HANU program comprises two components; the HANU Graduate Diploma of TESOL, and three VU double master's units:

  • Education Research Design and Methods (AED5001)
  • Innovation (AED5009), and
  • Evaluation (AED5008).

Upon successful completion, students receive both a HANU and a VU qualification which maximises employment outcomes and understanding of both Vietnamese and Australian environments.

The VU award is formally recognised by the Ministry of Higher Education and Training (MOET). This enables the qualification to be accepted for public sector employment.

The Master of TESOL is not offered in Melbourne, however the three double units are offered within other master qualifications in education. This ensures that the quality and standards of delivery in Melbourne and Vietnam are equivalent.
