About VU

Opportunities through scholarships

VU’s scholarships program helps to remove barriers to education for students who may otherwise not have the opportunity to study.

Some of our main scholarships funded by donations are listed below. Visit the scholarships page for a full list of scholarships available to students.

VU Achievement Scholarships

VU offers up to 100 Achievement Scholarships each year – 50 for undergraduate students and 50 for TAFE students.

Achievement scholarships are awarded to the highest-achieving students from secondary schools and TAFEs in the western region.

Rather than assessing potential candidates on ATAR scores, we take a number of other factors into consideration such as:

  • the individual student's internal school ranking
  • the student's level of community involvement
  • the difference that a scholarship would make to the student's capacity to further their education.

Sport scholarships

Available to all current VU students, our sport scholarships help outstanding athletes balance study with the demands of elite level sport.

The scholarships also assist emerging student athletes in their aim to perform at the elite sporting level.

Kirner Kosky Scholarship Fund

Every year the Kirner Kosky Scholarships support two female students from Melbourne’s west. As part of the scholarship, recipients receive mentoring from a female community leader.

The fund honours two leading Victorian women: former Victorian Premier the Hon. Joan Kirner, and former Victorian Education Minister the Hon. Lynne Kosky. These leading women have made significant contributions to education in both the western region and across Victoria.

The Kirner Kosky Scholarship Fund supports scholarships at VU in perpetuity, providing an enduring legacy that honours these inspiring women.

East Timor Scholarship Fund

The East Timor Scholarships Fund enables selected Timorese students to access VU education programs.

The scholarship provides a living and travel allowance for students who have gained entry into one of VU’s courses through the normal channels.
