When submitting your application, you will be required to provide certified documentation to support your claims of previous study, work or life experience.

Some courses may list additional information requirements, so please check your course page to ensure you submit a complete application.

Key documents to provide

As part of your application, you may need to submit documentation relating to your previous study, work or life experience.

These documents may include:

  • Educational qualification/s:
Certified copies of your Academic Transcripts and certificate of completion (what is a certified copy?). VUHQ (Student Service Centre) staff can sight your original documents in order to certify any copies.
  • Work and/or life experience:
A copy of your current CV, Position Description (PD), supporting letter from your employer outlining your duties, responsibilities and duration of your employment/volunteer work.
  • Statement of interest:
Up to 500 words that describe why you would like to enrol in the course, what you hope to achieve through study, the type of career path you would like to follow, and how your previous study/work/life experiences support your application.
  • Course-specific requirements:
Some courses may also require additional information to be submitted as part of the application. It is your responsibility to complete all extra requirements by the closing dates, otherwise your application may not be considered. These may be:
    • a supplementary information form
    • referee reports
    • an interview, audition, information session and/or workshop
    • a folio
    • a test
    • a Literacy and Numeracy (L&N) assessment (TAFE courses only).

You will receive an email notification requesting further information if you have applied directly to VU and not submitted the required supporting documentation.

How to submit

Please do not send original documents - these will not be returned. Please provide certified copies of your supporting documentation.

Applied through VTAC

If you have applied through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC), you’ll need to submit your documents directly to VTAC. Find out how to supply documentation to VTAC.

Applied direct to VU

If you have applied online directly to VU (via our Admissions Centre), we will acknowledge receipt of your application via email, and let you know if you need to provide any additional documents.

When providing any additional information, please clearly identify the course you have applied for, your name and date of birth. VUHQ staff can sight your original documents in order to certify any copies.

Special consideration

You may wish to apply for consideration under one of our special admission categories, where we assess your application on a number of factors, not just your grades.

The categories are typically life circumstances that may make studying more difficult, and include:

  • mature-age consideration
  • recognition as an Indigenous Australian
  • living in rural or isolated areas
  • studying in under-represented disciplines
  • being from a non-English speaking background
  • having a disability or medical condition
  • coming from a disadvantaged financial background
  • experiencing difficult living circumstances.
