Michelle Straschnitzki's son Ryan was on the Bronco's bus; she says she's spoken to him, & that he can't feel his lower body. Says family is flying from Airdrie AB to join him in Saskatoon tomorrow.
A father of one of the victims is about 30 ft from me. He is kneeling on the road and crying. Friends who drove him tell me "he lost his boy and doesn't know what to do." They were in Nipawin waiting for the game. #sask
Hockey players outside the NHL spend the majority of their time travelling by bus. I see OHL busses driving on the 403 all the time. It becomes a second living room for these kids where they should feel safe. Hoping for the best for the kids of the Humboldt Broncos.
I’m here in Humboldt at the arena. Outside there are people huddled in groups, crying. Hundreds of people gathered at the arena. We’ll bring you the latest on this crash as soon as we know
People wearing Broncos jerseys are walking by now just absolutely devastated. You can hear people wailing in separate rooms. It’s just so much sadness, so much grief. It’s just unimaginable and so far we don’t know the full extent of the fatalities.
Elgar Petersen Arena here in Humboldt has turned into a mobile crisis centre. Young people huddled at tables crying. People on phones trying to figure out more information. There’s counselling services set up on site here. You can just feel the devastation.
I can’t put into words how heart broken I am for the Humboldt Broncos right now - not only for the people immediately effected but also for the people who will feel this pain for the rest of their lives. This is unimaginable. I’m feeling extremely far from home right now.
