Vinod Mehra (Hindi: विनोद मेहरा) (13 February 1945 – 30 October 1990) was an Indian actor in Bollywood films. He started out as a child actor in the late 1950s before starting his film career as an adult in 1971. He acted in over 100 films through to his death at the age of 45 in 1990. Career

Mehra made his debut in the 1958 film Raagni as a child artist playing the younger version of the character played by Kishore Kumar. After playing a few more minor roles as a child, he started his film career as an adult in 1971 with Ek Thi Rita, a smash hit based on the English play, 'A Girl Called Rita', along with Tanuja. He was one of finalists in the 1965 All India Talent Contest organised by United Producers and Filmfare from more than ten thousand contestants. He lost the contest to Rajesh Khanna and became male runner up of the contest.

This was followed by the film Parday Ke Peechhay opposite debutant Yogeeta Bali followed by Elaan (with Rekha), Amar Prem (1972) and Lal Patthar, though it was only Shakti Samanta's Anuraag (1972) with Maushmi Chatterjee, which established him as an actor. He went on to appear in over 100 films in his career spanning over two decades. He played the lead role in some of his earlier films but often acted in many multi-starrers as the secondary lead or played supporting roles such as a brother, friend, uncle, father and police officer. He worked with many actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar, Rajesh Khanna, Sunil Dutt and Dharmendra. His frequent female co-stars included Rekha, Maushmi Chatterjee, Yogeeta Bali, Shabana Azmi and Bindiya Goswami.

Aruna Irani

Aruna Irani (born 18 August 1946) is an Indian actress, who has acted in over 300 films in Hindi, Marathi and Gujarati cinema, mostly playing supporting roles. She has danced in the songs "Thoda Resham Lagta Hai" from the film Jyoti (1981); "Chadti Jawani Meri Chaal Mastani", "Dilbar Dilse Pyare", and "Ab Jo Mile Hai" from the film Caravan (1971); and "Main Shayar To Nahi" from the film Bobby (1973). Her performances won her nomination at Filmfare Awards for Best Supporting Role. She holds the record for winning the maximum nominations (10) in this category and received the award twice for her roles in Pet Pyaar Aur Paap (1985) and Beta (1993). In January 2012, she was honoured with Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award at the 57th Filmfare Awards.

Early life

Aruna Irani was born on 18 August 1946 in Mumbai, India. Her father Faredun Irani ran a drama troupe, and her mother Saguna was an actress. She is eldest of eight siblings, and gave up studies after sixth standard because her family did not have enough money to educate all the children.

Ashok Kumar

Ashok Kumar (13 October 1911 – 10 December 2001), born Kumudlal Ganguly and also fondly called Dadamoni, was an Indian film actor who attained iconic status in Indian cinema. He was honoured in 1988 with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest national award for cinema artists, by the Government of India and also received the Padma Bhushan in 1999 for his contributions to Indian cinema. He is considered to be one of India's finest ever actors, playing leading, negative and character roles with equal panache.

Family

Ashok Kumar was born Kumudlal Ganguly in Bhagalpur, then in the Bengal Presidency and now lying in Bihar. His father, Kunjlal Ganguly, was a lawyer while his mother, Gouri Devi, was a home-maker. Kumudlal (as he was then known) was the eldest of four children. A couple of years younger to him was his only sister, Sati Devi, who was married at a very young age to Sashadhar Mukherjee and became the matriarch of a large "film family". More than fourteen years younger than Kumudlal was his next brother, Kalyan (b.1926), who later took the screen name Anoop Kumar, and youngest of all was Abhas (b.1929), whose screen name was Kishore Kumar and who became a phenomenally successful playback singer of Hindi films. Although the eldest of the three brothers by several years, Ashok Kumar outlived his siblings. In fact, he stopped celebrating his birthday after his youngest brother, Kishore, died on that very day (Ashok's birthday) in 1987.
