Megalodon (/ˈmɛɡələˌdɒn, -loʊ-/ MEG-ə-lə-don or /ˈmeɪɡələˌdɒn, -loʊ-/ MAY-ghə-lə-don, meaning "big tooth", from Ancient Greek: μέγας (megas) "big, mighty" and ὀδoύς (odoús), "tooth"—whose stem is odont-, as seen in the genitive case form ὀδόντος, odóntos) is an extinct species of shark that lived approximately 15.9 to 2.6 million years ago, during the Cenozoic Era (middle Miocene to end of Pliocene).
The taxonomic assignment of C. megalodon has been debated for nearly a century, and is still under dispute. The two major interpretations are Carcharodon megalodon (under family Lamnidae) or Carcharocles megalodon (under the family Otodontidae). Consequently, the scientific name of this species is commonly abbreviated C. megalodon in the literature.
Regarded as one of the largest and most powerful predators in vertebrate history,C. megalodon probably had a profound impact on the structure of marine communities.Fossil remains suggest that this giant shark reached a length of 18 metres (59 ft), and also indicate that it had a cosmopolitan distribution. Scientists suggest that C. megalodon looked like a stockier version of the great white shark, Carcharodon carcharias.

Monster Shark (Italian: Shark - Rosso nell'oceano) is Italian-French science fiction and horror film.
The film takes place along a stretch of coastline somewhere in Florida in the United States, where a local tourist spot has become plagued by a mysterious marine creature. Little do they know, the monster is the product of a secret military experiment — a genetic hybrid mutated from a common octopus and the prehistoric super-predator Dunkleosteus. Unfortunately, the creature has broken loose, and is now feeding on swimmers and tourists swimming or sailing along the coast. Also, the monster is only an infant, and will continue to grow if it is left to hunt much longer.
A team of scientists led by a scientist named Peter and his colleague, Dr. Stella Dickens, are trying to find the creature and stop it, but a group of military scientists are trying to stop them, as the experiment was classified and is military business. Both groups are slowly picked off by the creature while they try to track it down. They eventually find that it is hiding in the Everglades and manage to corner it in shallow waters and kill it with repeated blasts from flamethrowers. At the end, Peter tells Stella that he has finally decided to take a vacation. When she asks where they are going, he tells her "the mountains". The ending is a freeze-frame shot.

Based on only fossil records, we try to discover all we can about animals that once roamed our planet. Few prehistoric animals inspire the kind of awe and fascination as the megalodon. We tend to think of them as just bigger versions of the great white shark, but you’ll see that these two sharks had a lot of differences. And even though they both swam the seas at the same time, it’s unlikely that they would have ever interacted with one another, which is probably a good thing for the great white!
