Deerfield Beach is a city in Broward County, Florida, USA. It is located just south of the Palm Beach County line. The city is named for the numerous deer that once roamed the area. As of the 2010 United States Census, the population was 75,018. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area, which was home to 5,564,635 people at the 2010 census.
Deerfield Beach's history dates back to 1890 when a small settlement named Hillsborough was developed along the Hillsboro River. As the population grew to 20 by 1898, the settlement was now served by its own post office and the town was named Deerfield for the deer that grazed along the Hillsboro River.
By the early twentieth century, as the town's population continued to grow, the Florida East Coast Railroad constructed tracks en route to Miami bisecting Deerfield. Deerfield's early settlers were mostly farmers who grew pineapples, tomatoes, green beans, squash and fished along the Intracoastal Waterway. Through the 1940s, Deerfield remained a largely agricultural based community, but in 1939 the town's name was changed to Deerfield Beach to let tourists know it has a beach.
Avon Old Farms School is a single-sex boarding school for boys located in Avon, Connecticut. It was founded by Theodate Pope Riddle. It opened in 1927 and closed for a period during World War II to serve as a convalescent hospital for blind veterans. The current headmaster is Kenneth H. LaRocque.
Avon Old Farms is in the Founders League.
Avon Old Farms School was founded by Theodate Pope Riddle, Connecticut's first licensed female architect. She founded the school in 1927. Influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement and the ideals of the old New England farm, Riddle designed and supervised the building of the school over a span of 10 years, from 1918–27, which cost her over $7,000,000 to complete.
The original stone and oak architecture is modeled after English Cotswold and Tudor styles using traditional English methods with many of the materials hewn from the school's property. The school sits upon 900 acres, with the Farmington River to the east.
In the founding years, Avon combined English and American secondary school traditions with a radical modern curriculum. Riddle closed the school during World War II when it was converted to Old Farms Convalescent Hospital for blinded Army veterans.
Deerfield Academy is a highly selective independent, coeducational boarding school at Deerfield, Massachusetts, United States. It is a four-year college-preparatory school with approximately 640 students and about 120 faculty, all of whom live on or near campus during the school year.
The acceptance rate at Deerfield Academy is currently around 16%.
Deerfield is a member of the Eight Schools Association (ESA), begun informally in 1973–74 and formalized in 2006, and of the Ten Schools Admissions Organization, founded in 1956. There is a seven-school overlap of membership between the two groups. Deerfield is additionally a member of the G20 Schools group.
In 2007 Deerfield's endowment was valued at US$415 million, or roughly $680,000 per student. Fees were around $37,000 for day students and $52,000 for boarders in 2012-2013.
Deerfield Academy was founded in 1797 when Massachusetts Governor Samuel Adams granted a charter to found a school in the town of Deerfield. It began to educate students in 1799. The academy quickly established itself as one of the finest schools in the new republic, drawing boys from prominent families across New England. The school produced influential men that occupied many congressional and gubernatorial seats in New England. By the end of the 19th century, the shifting trends in industrialization had left rural Deerfield behind. The economic hardships of the times impoverished local farmers and drove them away to the wealthy cities. The board of trustees was considering closing the Academy, as only nine students remained. These were the school's darkest times. With little support from local farmers and a dire economic situation, the 100-year-old school was on the brink of collapse.

Travelled the world a million ways
Catching upon a familiar gaze
Everyone lives by do or die
There's no one with time to laugh or cry
There's no one to tell us what we're living for
And though I tried to be a good man
I just know that I'll be losing very soon
And there are times and there are motions
When I do believe I'm going out of tune, oh
Now I've been around a long, long while
Looking for sun to make me smile
But still multiply their daily bread
They're thinking, there lies good times ahead
It must be a mighty funny way to feel
And though I try to be a good man
I keep finding out there's nowhere to begin
And so I think I'll go on singing
