UNDP

Our funding

Overview

Adequate and quality funding is essential for the UN development system to work as one and effectively support the 2030 Agenda.

In order to achieve our mandate, UNDP is funded entirely by voluntary contributions from UN Member States, multilateral organizations, private sector and other sources, in the form of unrestricted contributions (regular resources) and contributions earmarked for a particular region, project, or area of development.

Bilateral, multilateral, domestic resources and vertical funds remain our primary sources of funding, accounting for two-thirds of total funding in 2016.

Development is a long term process that requires a clear strategic focus and the ability to respond to immediate crisis and emerging challenges and opportunities. UNDP continues to work towards expanding and diversifying its resource base  in order to implement its new Strategic Plan and fulfill the promise of achieving the Sustainable Developing Goals.
