Our campaigns

The RSA campaigns for a secular Australia. We dedicate a large part of our efforts towards ensuring Australian public policy is based on evidence and reason, rather than on the tenets of religion or pseudoscience.

These efforts are guided by the RSA’s 10 Point Plan for a secular Australia, developed to summarise our major public policy stances in ensuring an open and secular state in which no Australian is subject to the effects of discrimination based on religious belief.

We promote a rational approach to public ethical issues, including seeking to stimulate freedom of thought; supporting a secular and ethical system of education; extending Australians’ civil liberties by decriminalising abortion, legalising assisted dying, and allowing equal marriage; promoting the fullest possible use of science for human welfare; and encouraging interest in science, criticism and philosophy as connected factors in a progressive human culture.

In 2016-2017, we have four specific campaign focuses:

These were determined in September 2016 after consultation with RSA members and influenced by a professionally facilitated strategic planning workshop.
