Emerging soprano, Alicia Jayourba, has excited audiences in both the United States and Europe with her engaging stage presence and powerful dramatic voice.
Recently Ms. Jayourba covered the role of Turandot with Des Moines Metro Opera, where she joined the company roster as an Apprentice Artist during the 45th festival season. While at DMMO, Alicia also performed several scenes, including a scene as Eva fom Richard Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg with the DMMO Festival Orchestra. Alicia has performed the roles of Miss Jessel in Benjamin Britten's The Turn of the Screw with the Miami Music Festival, Magda Sorel in Menotti's The Consul with Harrower Opera, and The Mother in Humperdink's Hänsel und Gretel with CoOPERAtive. Further credits include Anna Maurrant in Kurt Weill’s Street Scene, the title role in Massenet’s La Navarraise, Love Simpson in Carlisle Floyd’s Cold Sassy Tree (under Mr. Floyd’s direction) in main stage productions with the Florida State University Opera as well as the Sea Witch in Dvořák’s Rusalka with the FSU Outreach Program. In 2014 Alicia was the Soprano Soloist in Dvořák's Stabat Mater with the Plodiv Philharmonic Orchestra at the prestigious Musikverein in Vienna, Austria and with The City of Prague Philharmonic in Dvořák Hall in Prague, Czech Republic.
Alicia has appeared in concert in Vienna, Austria with Varna International, where she was the recipient of the Soloist Award. In the spring of 2012 she performed in concert at Château de Lanquais in Dordogne, France. Ms. Jayourba has been the recipient of a study grant (2016) and an encouragement grant (2015) from the Wagner Society of New York City. She has performed in many recitals in New Orleans, Louisiana, Tallahassee, Florida, New York City and others. Alicia completed her graduate studies at Florida State University where she studied with acclaimed soprano, Shirley Close.
