    And even as NPAs(loans) are written down in the balance sheet, the recoverability isnt diluted at all, the two things are totally unrelated

    Writing down bad loans ensures that the investors have to maintain capital adequacy and therefore protect the depositors.

    If Banks dont write down the loans which gone bad, their balance sheet may remain rosy, while in reality Bank may have poor capital adequacy
