  11. Not Govt's decision. It's compliance requirement, Banks dont have choice and if it's not imposed, it's we small depositors who'd be at risk

  12. And even as NPAs(loans) are written down in the balance sheet, the recoverability isnt diluted at all, the two things are totally unrelated

  13. Writing down bad loans ensures that the investors have to maintain capital adequacy and therefore protect the depositors.

  14. If Banks dont write down the loans which gone bad, their balance sheet may remain rosy, while in reality Bank may have poor capital adequacy

  15. Loans that Banks disburse are shown as Assets in their balance sheet, it's a statutory requirement for Banks to write down bad loans
