If MSU wanted to know about me and other survivors, they could have just talked to us. We had outstanding offers meet with them.https://www.lansingstatejournal.com/story/news/local/2018/03/28/msu-spent-500-k-january-monitor-social-media-accounts-nassar-victims-others/447378002/ …
A PR firm billed MSU for $500K as it tracked social media activity surrounding the Larry Nassar case, which often included victims and their families, journalists and others.https://on.lsj.com/2Gf3D38
The university's legal expenses related to Nassar it hit $9 million, a total that doesn't include the last few months of work done by its most expensive law firms.
The PR firm, which no longer works with MSU, billed for work done by 18 employees who totaled 1,443 hours worked in January. Five billed for more than $50K each, with one at $96,900 and another at $120,893.
That stretch included Nassar's seven-day Ingham County sentencing and the start of his Eaton County sentencing, when the attention on MSU increased significantly.
Much of what MSU paid the PR firm to do had been done by its internal communications staff for more than a year. That staff continued some of those duties in January and still does them.

This should raise serious questions about the use of money by MSU. I wonder if anyone is being paid to track this?https://www.lansingstatejournal.com/story/news/local/2018/03/28/msu-spent-500-k-january-monitor-social-media-accounts-nassar-victims-others/447378002/ …
Imagine if MSU had spent this kind of time and money monitoring its own employees instead. #Nassar #Strampel @michiganstateuhttps://twitter.com/chadlivengood/status/979023902310588417 …
The amazing thing here is that after paying top-tier big international PR agency rates to track audience sentiment, MSU's leadership in no way acted like it had listened to a word anybody was saying. They're a case study in how to botch a crisis PR response.https://twitter.com/MattMencarini/status/979018466081550338 …
