As part of its 2018 workplan and in preparation for the 6th Operational Phase (OP6) core funds grant allocation call for proposals, the National Steering Committee (NSC) and Technical Advisory Group (TAG) of the GEF Small Grants Programme held its first annual joint workshop and monitoring of projects in Savaii from Monday 19th April to Wednesday 21st April 2018.
The new United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Samoa, Ms Simona Marinescu, today presented her credentials to the Prime Minister of Samoa, the Honourable Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi during their first official meeting.
On Wednesday 7th of February, an Education for Sustainable Development workshop was held on Rarotonga, Cook Islands.
The Women’s Committee at Siumu are serious about conserving their environment and surrounding. It is for this reason that they have completed the first of its two-phase USD10,000 project funded by UNDP GEF-Small Grants Programme, which is in line with the United Nations SDG14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.
Tokelau is an atoll nation prone to the adverse impacts of extreme weather conditions (particularly tropical cyclones), climate variability (particularly drought), climate change and rising sea-level. The most significant climate change impacts on Tokelau’s communities will be on water and food security, community assets and infrastructure, reef and lagoon ecology.
This year, International Women’s Day comes on the heels of unprecedented global movement for women’s rights, equality and justice. Sexual harassment, violence and discrimination against women has captured headlines and public discourse, propelled by a rising determination for change.
