    Amir was not match fixing (a major crime) but spot fixing, overstepping once. Had Amir allowed himself to be bowled with one run to win and an over to play I would be with you. And the attenuating vs aggravating circumstances further clinches the argument.

    Amir was a callow 17 year old, new to international cricket, who foolishly followed his captain. Smith is experienced and as the team’s captain led the mischief. His crime is surely greater.

    I agree with that Steve Smith should be banned for at least two years. Mohammad Amir, who committed a lesser crime (bowling a no-ball for the bookies on his captain's instructions), was banned for five.
