Lan Kwai Fong is a small square of streets in Central, Hong Kong Island. The area was dedicated to hawkers before the Second World War, but underwent a renaissance in the mid-1980s. It is now a popular expatriate haunt in Hong Kong Island for drinking, clubbing and dining. The street Lan Kwai Fong is L-shaped with two ends joining with D'Aguilar Street.
The Lan Kwai Fong Association is a non-profit making business chamber which groups together over 100 restaurants, bars, clubs, retailers and service providers in Lan Kwai Fong to promote the unique Lan Kwai Fong culture and charms to locals and the world.
Lan Kwai Fong as an area is defined by D'Aguilar Street and the smaller lane, Lan Kwai Fong, an L-shaped, cobble-stoned lane. Both streets turn 90 degrees to form a rectangle. It is near the Mid-Levels. Its eating and drinking establishments are considered upmarket in price and the area is also considered a tourist spot. From the west side of the rectangle, Wo On Lane and Wing Wah Lane extend to host several more spots for drinks and food. The area arguably extends to Wellington Street and Wyndham Street, through to the Hong Kong Fringe Club. It is also home to a small number of art galleries.
Kwai Fong (Chinese: 葵芳) is an area of Kwai Chung Town, Kwai Tsing District, Hong Kong. The mainly residential area extends to Kwai Hing (葵興) in the north, Lai King in the south, Tsing Yi Bridge to the west, and Tai Lin Pai Industrial Area to the east. It is part of the reclamation of Gin Drinkers Bay in 1960s.
Kwai Fong is named after Kwai Fong Estate, a public housing estate. Kwai (葵) is the first Chinese character of Kwai Chung. Before the Mass Transit Railway (MTR) served the area, there were only few private residential blocks west of the estate.
The area also contains two mega-plazas, Metroplaza and Kwai Chung Plaza. Two of the most well known schools in the area are Daughters of Mary Help of Christians Siu Ming Catholic Secondary School and Buddhist Sin Tak College.
Kwai Chung Sports Ground is a major sports ground in Kwai Tsing District. It has track and field facilities and a football pitch. It was the first facility in the district to include Tartan track. It is situated next to Hing Fong Road, opposite Metropolitan Plaza.
The Kwai are an insectoid humanoid fictional species in the DC Comics universe, created by Dan Abnett, Andy Lanning and Oliver Coipel. Allies of the Legion of Super-Heroes, they were a nomadic, matriarchical people who mostly displayed a pacifistic approach to life. The few exceptions to the last of these, such as Shikari, were dubbed "Lonestars".
The Kwai are one of the thousands of species Element Lad was ultimately responsible for the creation of after he became stranded a billion years in the past of the "Second Galaxy," in his indefinitely prolonged lifespan. They were an insect-like humanoid race, whose distinguishing features included slate-grey skin with black tattoo-like markings, dragonfly-like wings, retractable armoured exoskeletons and the ability to find any path if such existed, even without obvious tracks to follow.
Their travels usually led them to follow "feral stars" - newly appearing stars in their path - which they considered good luck. When, in the 31st century, Element Lad's home time period, they followed a "star" which was in reality the Legionnaire Wildfire, it led them to encounter the Progeny, a xenophobic beetle-like race who began to hunt them down. While fleeing from a Progeny attack which killed two of her friends, Shikari would encounter the other Legionnaires, held in stasis, who had been flung through a rift to the Second Galaxy - though displaced only in space rather than time and space. Revived, they aided her in driving off the Progeny, then followed her to their "brief-home," where they helped the Kwai to gather resources for moving on, and the Kwai helped in turn to make their heavily damaged ship functional, and created a new containment suit for Wildfire from their plastic-like "Use-weave". They and the Legion then went their separate ways, although Shikari would remain with the team.
Hong Kong (香港; "Fragrant Harbour"), officially Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, is an autonomous territory on the southern coast of China at the Pearl River Estuary and the South China Sea. Hong Kong is known for its skyline and deep natural harbour. It has a land area of 1104 km2 and shares its northern border with Guangdong Province of Mainland China. With around 7.2 million inhabitants of various nationalities, Hong Kong is one of the world's most densely populated metropolises.
After the First Opium War (1839–42), Hong Kong became a British colony with the perpetual cession of Hong Kong Island, followed by Kowloon Peninsula in 1860 and a 99-year lease of the New Territories from 1898. Hong Kong remained under British control for about a century until the Second World War, when Japan occupied the colony from December 1941 to August 1945. After the Surrender of Japan, the British resumed control. In the 1980s, negotiations between the United Kingdom and the China resulted in the 1984 Sino-British Joint Declaration, which provided for the transfer of sovereignty of Hong Kong on 30 June 1997. The territory became a special administrative region of China with a high degree of autonomy on 1 July 1997 under the principle of one country, two systems. Disputes over the perceived misapplication of this principle have contributed to popular protests, including the 2014 Umbrella Revolution.
Lan Kwai Fong 3 (Chinese: 喜愛夜蒲3) is a 2014 blue comedy film directed by Wilson Chin and produced by Ng Kin-Hung. Lan Kwai Fong 3 is a sequel to 2011's Lan Kwai Fong and 2012's Lan Kwai Fong 2 as part of the Lan Kwai Fong theatrical series. Originally intended for a late December 2013 release it was pushed back to an early 2014 release due to production issues. The film was finally released in Hong Kong and Singapore on January 2, 2014. The film stars Whitney Hui, Ava Yu, Jeana He, Jason Chan, Alex Lam, Christine Ng, Celia Kwok, and Charles Ying. The movie is much darker than the previous two by depicting drugs and rape in club scenes.
The story follows four women who hit the Hong Kong night-life district of Lan Kwai Fong, looking for excitement and love. Jeana (from the first movie) is now a model in an open, non-committed relationship with Jacky (also from the first movie), and continues with her party-hard night lifestyle. Her friend Sara, feeling neglected by her fiance, looks for excitement by hitting the clubs again. Papa is an ugly duckling who works as an infants' school teacher by day and rushes home to go clubbing at night, hoping to find a guy who will love her. Jolie is a rich orphan who is looking to have fun, having just come back from England during her university holidays.
