The unboxing and quick test of the Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol S88.

After sending back the S61, I've now got the mighty S88. As a side note, the S61 was a very good Keyboard and if your not looking for weighted action, I'd say it's the best on the market - especially now it's got full DAW integration and controllability which reduces Mouse time.
It's unfortunate that NI have not included integration with Pro Tools in their instructions, but after I updated everything, it seems to work just fine and I have already made use of the new Plug In's from within Pro Tools.

Summary:
Pro's - Far too many to list but the Key action is sublime, Key weight just right and controllability is awesome. It's also very well built and not too heavy. The new Plugins are very, very nice.
Con's - Not too sure about the ribbon controllers and there's no instructions for Pro Tools integration which is a pain. I can't use the keyboards transport controls in Pro Tools :( Keyboard is also very thick - especially when you add the height of the knobs so I had to take the feet off my stand to get it under the desk. Power button is on the back (why, just WHY?). There is ample space for more knobs, they could have fit 3 or 4 times as many which would have reduced page scrolling and made it a perfect controller. As there is a large flat surface on the top of the controller (dead space) I've been using it for my Mouse:)

Pro Tools
Pro Tools is a digital audio workstation for Microsoft Windows and OS X developed and manufactured by Avid Technology. Pro Tools can run as standalone software, or operate using a range of external A/D converters and internal PCI Local Bus (PCI) or PCIe audio cards with onboard Digital signal processor (DSP).
Overview
Fundamentally, Pro Tools, like all digital audio workstation software, is similar to a multi-track tape recorder and mixer, with additional features that can only be performed in the digital domain. It supports 16-, 24-, 32-, and 64-bit float audio at sample rates up to 192 kHz, and can handle WAV, AIFF, AIFC, mp3, Windows Media Audio (WMA), and SDII audio files and QuickTime video files. It features time code, tempo maps, elastic audio, automation and surround sound abilities.
The Pro Tools mix engine has traditionally employed 48-bit fixed point arithmetic, but floating point is also used in some cases, such as with Pro Tools HD Native. The new HDX hardware uses 64 bit floating point summing.

After sending back the S61, I've now got the mighty S88. As a side note, the S61 was a very good Keyboard and if your not looking for weighted action, I'd say it's the best on the market - especially now it's got full DAW integration and controllability which reduces Mouse time.
It's unfortunate that NI have not included integration with Pro Tools in their instructions, but after I updated everything, it seems to work just fine and I have already made use of the new Plug In's from within Pro Tools.

Summary:
Pro's - Far too many to list but the Key action is sublime, Key weight just right and controllability is awesome. It's also very well built and not too heavy. The new Plugins are very, very nice.
Con's - Not too sure about the ribbon controllers and there's no instructions for Pro Tools integration which is a pain. I can't use the keyboards transport controls in Pro Tools :( Keyboard is also very thick - especially when you add the height of the knobs so I had to take the feet off my stand to get it under the desk. Power button is on the back (why, just WHY?). There is ample space for more knobs, they could have fit 3 or 4 times as many which would have reduced page scrolling and made it a perfect controller. As there is a large flat surface on the top of the controller (dead space) I've been using it for my Mouse:)

Pro's - Far too many to list but the Key action is sublime, Key weight just right and controllability is awesome. It's also very well built and not too heavy. The new Plugins are very, very nice.
Con's - Not too sure about the ribbon controllers and there's no instructions for Pro Tools integration which is a pain. I can't use the keyboards transport controls in Pro Tools :( Keyboard is also very thick - especially when you add the height of the knobs so I had to take the feet off my stand to get it under the desk. Power button is on the back (why, just WHY?). There is ample space for more knobs, they could have fit 3 or 4 times as many which would have reduced page scrolling and made it a perfect controller. As there is a large flat surface on the top of the controller (dead space) I've been using it for my Mouse:)

As a side note, the S61 was a very good Keyboard and if your not looking for weighted action, I'd say it's the best on the market - especially now it's got full DAW integration and controllability which reduces Mouse time. It's unfortunate that NI have not included integration with Pro Tools in their instructions, but after I updated everything, it seems to work just fine and I have already made use of the new Plug In's from within Pro Tools. First few hours with Native Instrument's Komplete Kontrol S88 and the Komplete 10 bundle
Having sent back the S61 and purchased the S88 this week, I thought I'd share my first few hours with Native Instrument's Komplete Kontrol S88 and the Komplete 10 bundle using it in stand alone mode (Komplete) and in Pro Tools 10 and 11. The NI promo vids are great but this is my experience. It was intended to be a short vid but ended up being around half an hour (sorry) as I wanted to test my new Mic set-up. Chris Liebing: In the Booth
In the final video of the Techno Alchemist series, Chris takes us into the DJ booth for a 2-hour live performance. Shot from the DJs perspective, this video presents a one-of-a-kind, inside look at the art of being a DJ. The set was filmed at Fuse club in Brussels, Belgium, in November 2016. Chris’s setup is based around MASCHINE and TRAKTOR PRO 2 software running on one computer – synced with Ableton Link. The audio runs from an Orion Antelope Soundcard through a PLAYdifferently MODEL 1 mixer, with two Allen & Heath Xone K2 Controllers controlling TRAKTOR.
