The Great British Bake Off, often referred to as simply Bake Off or GBBO, and aired under the name The Great British Baking Show in the United States, is a BAFTA award-winning British television baking competition first shown by BBC Two on 17 August 2010. It is presented by Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins, and judged by cookery writer Mary Berry and professional baker Paul Hollywood. The competition selects from amongst its contestants the best amateur baker.
The programme was moved to BBC One for its fifth series after it became the most popular show on BBC Two. Its increasing popularity is credited with reinvigorating interest in baking throughout the UK. Many of its participants, including winners, have gone on to start a career based on bakery. The winners are Edd Kimber, Joanne Wheatley, John Whaite, Frances Quinn, Nancy Birtwhistle, and most recently Nadiya Hussain.
The programme has spawned a number of specials and spin-off shows – a celebrity charity series in aid of Sport Relief or Comic Relief, Junior Bake Off for young children (broadcast on the CBBC channel), and An Extra Slice aired on BBC Two after the Bake Off series was moved to BBC One. Its format was also used on the BBC Two series The Great British Sewing Bee. The format has been sold to many countries around the world where local versions of the show are produced. In July 2015, advertisements appeared online looking for teams of professionals to take part in a professional version similar to the amateur bake off, however this will be in groups of three with one of the three acting as 'head chef'.

Studio C is a sketch comedy television show produced in Utah by BYUtv. The show traces its roots to the BYU sketch comedy troupe Divine Comedy, of which all ten cast members are current or former members. The show aims to produce clean, family-oriented comedy for a national audience, shedding the BYU-oriented humor of Divine Comedy. The show was originally planned to be named Common Room until being changed to its current name, a reference to the studio in the BYU Broadcasting Building where the show is primarily filmed in front of a live audience. The sixth season premiered in September 2015. They have also created, "Leave No Fan Behind" and "Christmas Special Live Event", which are both live YouTube events. This lets fans watch the cast play games and act out skits, as well as ask questions on Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube, for them to answer during the events.
Studio C currently has a YouTube channel with over 500,000 subscribers. Their channel features many skits from the show, along with a few YouTube exclusives. Studio C's most popular video is "Top Soccer Shootout Ever With Scott Sterling", which currently has over 34.7 million views on YouTube. Studio C posts new videos on YouTube every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Great Britain, also known as Britain i/ˈbrɪ.tən/, is an island in the North Atlantic off the north-west coast of continental Europe. With an area of 209,331 km2 (80,823 sq mi), it is the largest island in Europe and the ninth-largest in the world. In 2011 the island had a population of about 61 million people, making it the third-most populous island in the world, after Java in Indonesia and Honshu in Japan. It accounts for the majority of the British Isles archipelago, along with over 1,000 smaller surrounding islands, including the island of Ireland to its west.
The island is part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, constituting most of its territory: most of England, Scotland, and Wales are on the island, with their respective capital cities, London, Edinburgh, and Cardiff. Politically, the term Great Britain usually extends to include surrounding islands that form part of England, Scotland, and Wales.
A single Kingdom of Great Britain resulted from the Union of Scotland and England (which already comprised the present-day countries of England and Wales) in 1707. More than a hundred years before, in 1603, King James VI, King of Scots, had inherited the throne of England, but it was not until 1707 that the Parliaments of the two countries agreed to form a unified state. Subsequently, in 1801, Great Britain united with the neighbouring Kingdom of Ireland, forming the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. The state was renamed the "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" after five-sixths of Ireland seceded from the United Kingdom in 1922.

Watching TV shows is a great way to learn English. Firstly you are exposed to a wide range of useful vocabulary and colloquial language. Secondly you'll hear a variety of accents depending on the show you choose. Finally it's great listening practise. In addition TV is a fantastic window into the culture of a country and all 10 of these shows will teach you something about British culture. I've tried to include shows that are fun, enjoyable and contemporary so that you are exposed to modern English (except for Downton Abbey). TV Shows 1.
