Kaohsiung Cultural Center's grounds cover an area of 7.055 ha., a symbol of the construction of culture in Kaohsiung, and provide a place for the citizens of Kaohsiung to rest and stroll. As well as the Performing Arts Hall which hosts performances, the Cultural Center also has an artefact display hall, memorial hall, meeting hall, exhibition room and library. To one side, the Avenue of Citizens' Art features a stone drum, sunlight relay station, sculpture art, a creative bus stop, and love poem path, all of which mold a rich culture feeling. The art market which is held every Saturday and Sunday evening is another stage for artists and cultural products.

Charle: This is the main building of the Cultural Center. There are performance halls, galleries, and the library. Look, here is Chih-Te-Tang (至德堂), the next one is Chih-Shan-Ting (至善廳), but it's smaller than Chih-Te-Tang (至德堂). These halls are available for performances, rehearsals, and speeches.
Judy: I see. Wow, there are many beautiful paintings. Is it an art gallery?
Charle: Yes, as you see, Chih-Chen-Tang (至真堂) and Chih-Mei-Hsuan (至美軒) are both art galleries and available for artists and art students. Oh, the library is just next to them.

Judy: Wow, this place is so big and beautiful.

Kaohsiung is one of the world's larges sea harbours with five million people living in the region. A high speed train line connects the city with Taiwan's capital, Taipei. The harbour city of Kaohsiung wants to change into a multifaceted city with a state-of-the-art service industry and a rich cultural life.
As a result, a new metro system is to come online in 2009 and in the Wei-Wu-Ying Metropolitan Park, a former military compound of 65 ha., a grand complex for concerts, opera and theatre is being realised. The programme consists of a concert hall with 2000 seats, an opera house with 2250 seats, a theatre hall with 1250 seats and a Recital Hall with 500 seats.
An international competition was organised for the design of the park and the performing arts center. There is hardly any misunderstanding with regard to the ambitions of this project; the park and the arts complex must, with one gesture, give Kaohsiung another face.
An international jury chose the design of Mecanoo because of its great imagination, one-ness of the arts center with the park, modern theatre techniques and incorporation of the subtropical climate.

Kaohsiung Cultural Center

The Kaohsiung Cultural Center (Chinese: 高雄市文化中心; pinyin: Gāoxióngshì Wénhuà Zhōngxīn) is a cultural center located in Lingya District of Kaohsiung, Taiwan. It was founded by the city government in 1981. The main building of the center is a complex of two concert halls, many galleries, and a library. The office of Kaohsiung Bureau of Cultural Affairs is also located in Kaohsiung Cultural Center.
History
The cultural center was originally built as a memorial hall for Chiang Kai-shek; its former name was Kaohsiung Chiang Kai-shek Cultural Center (高雄市立中正文化中心). The memorial function was abolished by the city government in 2007, and the name was then changed to the current name.
Structure
The main building is 13884 square meters, the main audience hall located in the center called 至德堂 seats an audience of 1672. This hall is the cultural center for Kaohsiung city. The next largest hall 至善廳 seats 483 people, this hall is available for other performances, rehearsals and speech. There are also 至真堂 and 至美軒 art galleries available, for artists and students.

Kaohsiung
Kaohsiung City (Chinese: 高雄市; pinyin: Gāoxióng Shì; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Ko-hiông-chhī; old names: Takao, Takow, Takau) is a special municipality in Taiwan. Located in southern-western Taiwan and facing the Taiwan Strait, it is by area the largest municipality, at 2,951.85 km2 (1,139.72 sq mi), and second most populous (by urban area) with a population of approximately 2.77 million. Since its start in the 17th century, Kaohsiung has grown from a small trading village, into the political, economic, transportation, manufacturing, refining, shipbuilding, and industrial center of southern Taiwan. It is a global city with sufficiency as categorized by Globalization and World Cities Research Network in 2012.
The Kaohsiung International Airport is the third largest airport in Taiwan. The Port of Kaohsiung is the largest harbor in Taiwan, but not officially part of Kaohsiung City. The southern terminal of the Freeway 1 is in Kaohsiung. For north-south travel on railway, the city is served by the Taiwan Railways Administration stations of TRA Western Line and Pingtung Line. The Taiwan High Speed Rail also provides fast and frequent railway connection to Taipei. The Kaohsiung Mass Rapid Transit, the city's subway system, was launched in early 2008. Kaohsiung was the host city of the World Games 2009, a multi-sport event primarily composed of sports not featured in the Olympic Games. The city is also home to the Republic of China Navy fleet headquarters and academy.

Kaohsiung is one of the world's larges sea harbours with five million people living in the region. A high speed train line connects the city with Taiwan's capital, Taipei. The harbour city of Kaohsiung wants to change into a multifaceted city with a state-of-the-art service industry and a rich cultural life.
As a result, a new metro system is to come online in 2009 and in the Wei-Wu-Ying Metropolitan Park, a former military compound of 65 ha., a grand complex for concerts, opera and theatre is being realised. The programme consists of a concert hall with 2000 seats, an opera house with 2250 seats, a theatre hall with 1250 seats and a Recital Hall with 500 seats.
An international competition was organised for the design of the park and the performing arts center. There is hardly any misunderstanding with regard to the ambitions of this project; the park and the arts complex must, with one gesture, give Kaohsiung another face.
An international jury chose the design of Mecanoo because of its great imagination, one-ness of the arts center with the park, modern theatre techniques and incorporation of the subtropical climate.

The programme consists of a concert hall with 2000 seats, an opera house with 2250 seats, a theatre hall with 1250 seats and a Recital Hall with 500 seats.
An international competition was organised for the design of the park and the performing arts center. There is hardly any misunderstanding with regard to the ambitions of this project; the park and the arts complex must, with one gesture, give Kaohsiung another face.
An international jury chose the design of Mecanoo because of its great imagination, one-ness of the arts center with the park, modern theatre techniques and incorporation of the subtropical climate.

“Pi-Chin Chien was born to play the cello… she is the talent I have been waiting decades to hear.”–Pierre Fournier (1906-1986), known in his lifetime as “the aristocrat of cellists.”
Ms. Chien grew up in Taiwan. She studied in Switzerland, gaining soloist diplomas with distinction from both Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (Zurich University of the Arts) and Musikhochschule Luzern (Lucerne School of Music). Currently living in Switzerland, Ms. Chien is a world-renowned soloist and chamber musician. She serves as Music Director of the “Confluence” festival in Switzerland and “Swiss Music Night” in Taiwan. She was also invited to perform in the 1998 Presidential Office Year-End Concert and has performed a cello concerto with the National Symphony Orchestra (Taiwan) under Maestro Kek-Tjiang Lim.

Panai is a singer/songwriter from an indigenous tribe in Taitung. Her music may come across as brooding and gloomy, which gives her away as a wanderer. Those who listen to Panai’s music and lyrics say their hearts are deeply touched in a direct and intimate way. Feelings that many of us suppress, such as alienation and loneliness, are called to the surface by her voice.
After years of wandering in various cities, Panai decided to go back to her hometown with Nabu and settle down where she made her start. Nowadays, she also devotes herself to the human rights movement and the local arts, and she continues to sing, gently but powerfully.

The Bleinders, an a cappella group composed of eight members, use the purity of their voices to convey the simplest, most sincere emotions and to deliver a message of boundless hope and love. In July 2016, The Bleinders were invited to make a special guest appearance at vokal.total, an international modern a cappella competition in Graz, Austria. In September, President Tsai Ing-wen personally received the group at the Presidential Office.
Chien Wen-Pin, Musical Director of this Concert, is a world-renowned conductor. He also serves as Artistic Director designée of the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts. Focusing on the three core themes of art, cultural diversity and public benefit, Mr. Chien showcases the excellence of our nation’s arts and culture. In addition, he uses international cultural exchanges as a platform to introduce Taiwan’s musical talents to the public at home and abroad, fully demonstrating the government’s commitment to promoting cultural events and enhancing cultural rights for the underprivileged.

As the company director prepares a work based on Russian pagan tales of sacrifice (inspired by drawings of philosopher and painter Nicholas Roerich), the parallels with real life are unmistakable. Lisa, the lead dancer, has been chosen to perform the role of a young girl sacrificing her life in a dance to the death. In her personal life, Lisa is tormented that the man she loves has left her for another woman in the company. These two emotional traumas collide as Lisa rehearses this demanding role while watching the new lovers grow ever closer. As the fictional dance to the death concludes, Lisa’s collapse onstage brings her near to a mental breakdown.

法國大提琴泰斗傅尼葉曾稱讚：「她是天生拉大提琴的，也是我等待數十年的奇才！」
在臺灣出生長大，簡碧青以最優異成績畢業蘇黎世與盧森音樂院，是國際知名的獨奏家和室內樂專家。目前旅居瑞士，除了是瑞士音樂節「Confluence」及臺灣「瑞士音樂之夜」的音樂總監，也曾於1998年受邀參加總統府音樂會，並於林克昌指揮的國家音樂廳交響樂團演出中擔任協奏曲獨奏。

巴奈，來自臺東的原住民創作歌手，她的歌色調濃重而沈鬱，勾勒著她流浪各地的足跡。聽她的歌、讀她的詞，你會遇見一種熟悉的感覺，疏離與寂寞，久藏心底，被她的歌聲召喚而出，輕觸即四處漫溢。
在都市流浪許久，巴奈決定搬回故鄉和那布一起，在起點定居，並投身人權運動與在地藝文工作，溫柔堅定的繼續唱歌。

“Pi-Chin Chien was born to play the cello… she is the talent I have been waiting decades to hear.”–Pierre Fournier (1906-1986), known in his lifetime as “the aristocrat of cellists.”
Ms. Chien grew up in Taiwan. She studied in Switzerland, gaining soloist diplomas with distinction from both Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (Zurich University of the Arts) and Musikhochschule Luzern (Lucerne School of Music). Currently living in Switzerland, Ms. Chien is a world-renowned soloist and chamber musician. She serves as Music Director of the “Confluence” festival in Switzerland and “Swiss Music Night” in Taiwan. She was also invited to perform in the 1998 Presidential Office Year-End Concert and has performed a cello concerto with the National Symphony Orchestra (Taiwan) under Maestro Kek-Tjiang Lim.

Panai is a singer/songwriter from an indigenous tribe in Taitung. Her music may come across as brooding and gloomy, which gives her away as a wanderer. Those who listen to Panai’s music and lyrics say their hearts are deeply touched in a direct and intimate way. Feelings that many of us suppress, such as alienation and loneliness, are called to the surface by her voice.
After years of wandering in various cities, Panai decided to go back to her hometown with Nabu and settle down where she made her start. Nowadays, she also devotes herself to the human rights movement and the local arts, and she continues to sing, gently but powerfully.

In July 2016, The Bleinders were invited to make a special guest appearance at vokal.total, an international modern a cappella competition in Graz, Austria. In September, President Tsai Ing-wen personally received the group at the Presidential Office.

巴奈，來自臺東的原住民創作歌手，她的歌色調濃重而沈鬱，勾勒著她流浪各地的足跡。聽她的歌、讀她的詞，你會遇見一種熟悉的感覺，疏離與寂寞，久藏心底，被她的歌聲召喚而出，輕觸即四處漫溢。
在都市流浪許久，巴奈決定搬回故鄉和那布一起，在起點定居，並投身人權運動與在地藝文工作，溫柔堅定的繼續唱歌。

8位團員以阿卡貝拉的純人聲音樂，吟唱出他們心中最單純、最真誠的感動，饒富穿透力的歌聲傳遞著無限的希望與愛。今年7月受邀前往奧地利「vokal.total」國際現代阿卡貝拉大賽演出，並於同年9月獲蔡總統親自接見。
音樂會總策劃簡文彬為國際級指揮家，同時也是衛武營國家藝文中心準藝術總監，以藝術性、多元性及公益性為三大主軸，除展現國家藝文水準外，也以此做為國際文化交流的重要平台，將臺灣優秀的音樂人才推介至國內外，以彰顯政府對推廣藝文活動的重視及推動文化平權。
To show the depth of Taiwan’s musical heritage and to promote our musical talents, the Office of the President is holding the 2016 Concert of the Presidential Office on Saturday, November 19, at 18:30 in Ching-Kuo Hall in an effort to respond to our cultural community’s call to bring back this great tradition.

—Pi-Chin Chien—
“Pi-Chin Chien was born to play the cello… she is the talent I have been waiting decades to hear.”–Pierre Fournier (1906-1986), known in his lifetime as “the aristocrat of cellists.”
Ms. Chien grew up in Taiwan. She studied in Switzerland, gaining soloist diplomas with distinction from both Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (Zurich University of the Arts) and Musikhochschule Luzern (Lucerne School of Music). Currently living in Switzerland, Ms. Chien is a world-renowned soloist and chamber musician. She serves as Music Director of the “Confluence” festival in Switzerland and “Swiss Music Night” in Taiwan. She was also invited to perform in the 1998 Presidential Office Year-End Concert and has performed a cello concerto with the National Symphony Orchestra (Taiwan) under Maestro Kek-Tjiang Lim.
—Panai & Nabu—
Panai is a singer/songwriter from an indigenous tribe in Taitung. Her music may come across as brooding and gloomy, which gives her away as a wanderer. Those who listen to Panai’s music and lyrics say their hearts are deeply touched in a direct and intimate way. Feelings that many of us suppress, such as alienation and loneliness, are called to the surface by her voice.
After years of wandering in various cities, Panai decided to go back to her hometown with Nabu and settle down where she made her start. Nowadays, she also devotes herself to the human rights movement and the local arts, and she continues to sing, gently but powerfully.

The Bleinders, an a cappella group composed of eight members, use the purity of their voices to convey the simplest, most sincere emotions and to deliver a message of boundless hope and love. In July 2016, The Bleinders were invited to make a special guest appearance at vokal.total, an international modern a cappella competition in Graz, Austria. In September, President Tsai Ing-wen personally received the group at the Presidential Office.
Chien Wen-Pin, Musical Director of this Concert, is a world-renowned conductor. He also serves as Artistic Director designée of the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts. Focusing on the three core themes of art, cultural diversity and public benefit, Mr. Chien showcases the excellence of our nation’s arts and culture. In addition, he uses international cultural exchanges as a platform to introduce Taiwan’s musical talents to the public at home and abroad, fully demonstrating the government’s commitment to promoting cultural events and enhancing cultural rights for the underprivileged.
