Hakka people

The Hakkas (Chinese: 客家), sometimes Hakka Han, are Han Chinese people whose ancestral homes are chiefly from the Hakka-speaking provincial areas of Guangdong, Fujian, Jiangxi, Guangxi, Sichuan, Hunan, Zhejiang, Hainan and Guizhou. The Chinese characters for Hakka (客家) literally mean "guest families". Unlike other Han Chinese groups, the Hakkas are not named after a geographical region, e.g. a province, county or city.

The Hakkas are thought to have originated from the lands bordering the Yellow River (the modern northern Chinese provinces of Shanxi, Henan, and Hubei). In a series of migrations, the Hakkas moved and settled in their present areas in Southern China, and from there, substantial numbers migrated overseas to various countries throughout the world. The worldwide population of Hakkas is about 80 million.

The Hakka people have had a significant influence on the course of modern Chinese and overseas Chinese history; in particular, they have been a source of many revolutionary, political and military leaders.

Mazhavil Manorama

Mazhavil Manorama is a Malayalam general entertainment television channel from the Malayala Manorama group, the publisher of the widely circulated Malayalam Manorama daily, and Malayalam women's magazine Vanitha. Mazhavil Manorama is headquartered at Aroor, Alappuzha, near Kochi, Kerala.

The channel has been on air since 06:30 pm on 31 October 2011. The Malayalam Manorama group is already into TV media through their Malayalam news channel, Manorama News. Through the launch of Mazhavil Manorama, the group has widened its media business portfolio.

Mazhavil Manorama will be the second regional Malayalam channel to be launched in full high definition, after Asianet HD. It has been aired since 13 August 2015 as Mazhavil Manorama HD.

Mazhavil Manorama has various entertainment programmes in its portfolio including television dramas, music reality shows, and Malayalam movies. The channel also telecasts popular shows like Katha Ithu Vare, hosted by Poornima Indrajith, a talk show with celebrities; Samadooram, presented by Sreekandan Nairdna; and popular comedy show Marimayam, which conveys a real picture of public offices in Kerala. The channel also broadcasts reality shows like Veruthe Alla Bharya, a family based reality show hosted by Swetha Menon; Indian Voice, a musical reality show; and Comedy Festival, a reality competition among comedians for a title.

Manorama News

Manorama News (also known as MM TV) is a Malayalam language news channel owned and operated by Malayala Manorama. The channel, based at Aroor Alleppey, was launched on 17 August 2006, which coincided with the Malayalam New Year. The channel was launched with the assistance of media consulting company Mediaguru Consultants Pvt. Ltd.

The thirty-minute simultaneous newscast of regional news, Nattuvartha, from three regions of Kerala, viz. Malabar region, Kochi Region and Travancore region was done for the first time in the country.

Johny Lukose is the News Director and he also anchors a programme "Nere Chove". Romy Mathew and Pramod Raman are the Coordinating Editors of the channel and heads the input and output functions respectively.

Chinese martial arts

Chinese martial arts, often labeled under the umbrella terms Kung Fu (/ˈkʊŋ ˈfuː/; Chinese: 功夫; pinyin: gong fu) and Wushu (武术), are the several hundreds of fighting styles that have developed over the centuries in China. These fighting styles are often classified according to common traits, identified as "families" (家; jiā), "sects" (派; pài) or "schools" (門; mén) of martial arts. Examples of such traits include Shaolinquan (少林拳) physical exercises involving Five Animals (五形) mimicry, or training methods inspired by Chinese philosophies, religions and legends. Styles that focus on qi manipulation are called internal (内家拳; nèijiāquán), while others that concentrate on improving muscle and cardiovascular fitness are called "external" (外家拳; wàijiāquán). Geographical association, as in northern (北拳; běiquán) and "southern" (南拳; nánquán), is another popular classification method.

Terminology

Kung fu and wushu are loanwords from Chinese that, in English, are used to refer to Chinese martial arts. However, the Chinese terms kung fu and wushu ( listen (Mandarin) ; Cantonese: móuh-seuht) have distinct meanings. The Chinese equivalent of the term "Chinese martial arts" would be Zhongguo wushu (Chinese: 中國武術; pinyin: zhōngguó wǔshù) (Mandarin).
