Charles Merwin "Trey" Grayson III (born April 18, 1972) is an American politician and attorney who is currently CEO of the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. A former Secretary of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Grayson also was a candidate in the 2010 GOP primary to replace retiring Jim Bunning, losing to Rand Paul, the Tea Party favorite for the Republicans. He later was the director of the Harvard Institute of Politics.
A product of the Kenton County public school system, Secretary Grayson was inducted into the Kentucky Association for Academic Competition Hall of Fame for his achievements in the Governor's Cup and other academic competitions at Dixie Heights High School. Grayson was a 1989 Governor's Scholar and later served as President of the Program's Alumni Association.
Grayson went to Harvard University, where he graduated with honors in 1994 with an A.B. in government. He then returned to Kentucky, entering a JD/MBA dual-degree program at the University of Kentucky, where he was one of the first Kentucky MBA scholars and one of the first two Bert T. Combs Scholars, the College of Law's top scholarship.
Trey is a three in playing cards, dice, or dominoes, similar to the more familiar ace for one and deuce for two. It comes from Old French treis, meaning three. It is also a common nickname for those who are the third of their name. For example, it is William Henry ("Bill") Gates III's family nickname.
Trey may also refer to:
Randal Howard "Rand" Paul (born January 7, 1963) is an American politician and physician. Since 2011, Paul has served in the United States Senate as a member of the Republican Party representing Kentucky. He is the son of former U.S. Representative Ron Paul of Texas.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Paul attended Baylor University and is a graduate of the Duke University School of Medicine. Paul began practicing ophthalmology in 1993 in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and established his own clinic in December 2007. Throughout Paul's life, he volunteered for his father's campaigns. In 2010, Paul entered politics by running for a seat in the United States Senate. Paul has described himself as a Constitutional conservative and a supporter of the Tea Party movement and has advocated for a balanced budget amendment, term limits, and privacy reform.
On April 7, 2015, Paul officially announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination at the 2016 U.S. presidential election. He suspended his campaign on February 3, 2016, shortly after the Iowa caucus.
Grayson may refer to:
The Secretary of State of Kentucky is one of the constitutional officers of the U.S. state of Kentucky. It is now an elected office, but was an appointed office prior to 1891. The current Secretary of State is Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes, who was elected to her first term on 8 November 2011; she took office on 2 January 2012 and was reelected on 2 November 2015.
Despite the fact that Kentucky designates itself a Commonwealth, the office itself is still referred to as "Secretary of State" (unlike Virginia, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, which refer to the office as "Secretary of the Commonwealth"). The office was created by Article II, Section 17 of the Kentucky Constitution of 1792 simply as "the secretary". Article III, Section 21, of the Kentucky Constitution of 1850 changed the title of the office to Secretary of State.
Section 91 of the Kentucky Constitution of 1891 (the most recent state constitution), changed the method by which the Secretary of State is selected. Prior to 1891, the secretary was appointed by the governor; under the present Constitution, the Secretary of State is elected by the qualified voters of the state. The most recent election was in 2015. In 1992, the Constitution was amended to allow the Secretary of State to serve two successive terms.

The Annette Strauss Institute for Civic Life held a frank conversation about the forces of polarization that threaten to more deeply divide our country on Thursday, October 18, 2012. By all accounts, political polarization is on this rise. The gulf between Americans who identify as either Republican or Democrat has widened and deepened, even to the point that some citizens say they would not approve of their son or daughter marrying outside their own political party. Polarization makes politics more exciting for intense partisans. But governing, which used to involve the art of compromise, becomes more difficult. Campaigning becomes skewed by the intensity of feeling on each side, while those with more moderate views are left out of the dialogue. Civility is replaced with vitriol. This ...
