Lebanon's growing reputation as the gateway to the Middle East has
prompted a spate of western investment in the area. One of the
latest commercial ventures to open in Beirut is the restauraunt
chain Henry J Beans. The themed restaurant with a distinctly
American feel has been opened by a group of Lebanese men. English
staff have been flown in to train the local staff but the
restaurant will be managed by an American. The new manager says "Beirut
is the place to be in right now. It has endless opportunities and
having suffered 17 years of civil war, the people are now willing
to go out and do what they want". Mark, an english representative
of the group "My Kind of Town" which owns the restaurant chain,
admitted to a degree of apprehension before visiting Beirut but
said that the city was chosen as the location for the 18th opening
because of its reputation as the gateway to the lucrative middle
east markets.

It is bordered by Syria to the north and east and Israel to the south. Lebanon's location at the crossroads of the Mediterranean Basin and the Arabian hinterland facilitated its rich history and shaped a cultural identity of religious and ethnic diversity.
The earliest evidence of civilization in Lebanon dates back more than seven thousand years, predating recorded history. Lebanon was the home of the Canaanites/Phoenicians and their kingdom, a maritime culture that flourished for over a thousand years (c. 1550–539 BC). In 64 BC, the region came under the rule of the Roman Empire, and eventually became one of the Empire's leading centers of Christianity. In the Mount Lebanon range a monastic tradition known as the Maronite Church was established. As the Arab Muslims conquered the region, the Maronites held onto their religion and identity. However, a new religious group, the Druze, established themselves in Mount Lebanon as well, generating a religious divide that has lasted for centuries. During the Crusades, the Maronites re-established contact with the Roman Catholic Church and asserted their communion with Rome. The ties they established with the Latins have influenced the region into the modern era.

STORY-LINE: It's the start of the festive season and across central Beirut people have been busy erecting, adorning and lighting trees and decorations. A tall Christmas tree in one of the major shopping centres attracted a crowd. Families gather around the tree and children have a chance to have their photographs taken with Santa Claus. Lebanon has been enjoying a period of relative calm following a stretch turmoil due to the war in neighbouring Syria. Lebanon's growing reputation as the gateway to the Middle East has
prompted a spate of western investment in the area. One of the
latest commercial ventures to open in Beirut is the restauraunt
chain Henry J Beans. The themed restaurant with a distinctly
American feel has been opened by a group of Lebanese men. English
staff have been flown in to train the local staff but the
restaurant will be managed by an American. The new manager says "Beirut
is the place to be in right now. It has endless opportunities and
having suffered 17 years of civil war, the people are now willing
to go out and do what they want". Mark, an english representative
of the group "My Kind of Town" which owns the restaurant chain,
admitted to a degree of apprehension before visiting Beirut but
said that the city was chosen as the location for the 18th opening
because of its reputation as the gateway to the lucrative middle
east markets.

It was in 7th April 1983, that Sis. Margaret Pandian, Founder, Lebanon Ministries, heard the thunderous voice of the Lord God telling her "I am the Lord thy God who brought thee out of the land of Egypt". That was the turn point in her Life.
She is a powerfully anointed woman of God and has the wonderful privilege of the Lord speaking to her as a friend. She is anointed with all the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit. Right now she pastors a congregation at Mettu Irungalur - a village 25 Kms away from Trichy. She carries on the burden for Christ despite the tragic loss of her younger daughter Sharmila Joan in 2008.
She is blessed with a loving and caring husband, A.P.K. Pandian, whose fervent prayers has been a great strength in her ministry. God is using her daughter Anita Sharon in a mighty way too.

I am in Beirut, Lebanon! I am currently interning with an amazing Christian nonprofit to help provide aid and relief for the Syrian Refugee crisis for the summer and am a little over a week in. I primarily work Mon-Thurs and Sunday so the clips are collection from some of the work and my time off. We have been doing a lot of work in churches and refugees camps. The refugee camps I have been to so far have asked us not to take pictures. Commissioned by the Lebanese Ministry of Tourism, We spent 5 summer months filming Lebanon from Above, including its rural, urban, cultural touristic and histor...
Commissioned by the Lebanese Ministry of Tourism, We spent 5 summer months filming Lebanon from Above, including its rural, urban, cultural touristic and historical location, as well as the amazing number of festivals.
The idea was to show Lebanon's beauty, diversity and wealth from another angle (above), in order to encourage and promote international and domestic tourism.
My main personal goal is to remind us all that Lebanon is not all about problems, political turmoil, trash...etc but is first and foremost a country that has so much to offer on such a small portion of land, and is still, in spite of everything, truly beautiful.
Maybe by seeing this video, people who lost sight of what Lebanon truly is, will have newfound optimism and strength to participate in steering the country in the right direction, to understand that it is their country to love and protect.

We filmed from mid June to early November and covered Mount Lebanon, Beirut, Southern Lebanon, the Bekaa, Baalbek and North Lebanon.
We received amazing support from the Ministry of Tourism, as well as the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Defense, the Lebanese Air Force and the Lebanese Army Intelligence.
From the beginning, a social media campaign was created on Instagram, under @riseabovelebanon, which yielded a lot of interest and followers, reaching an organic 12,000 followers so far.
The book, also titled "Rise Above Lebanon", was released on 2 December 2015. it is a hardcover photography book of the highest standard, with 200 pages of images of Lebanon from Above and is available in all major bookshops in Lebanon.
The video, of a duration of 5 minutes was released by Live Love Lebanon and the Ministry of Tourism on 4 February 2016 and immediately went viral, with over about 2 million views as well as over 40,000 shares, 12,000 likes and hundreds of comments (99% of which are positive).
The result is this video of 5 Minutes.

Following the destructive Lebanese Civil War, Beirut's cultural landscape underwent major reconstruction.Identified and graded for accountancy, advertising, banking/finance and law, Beirut is ranked as a Beta World City by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network.

Margaret Pandian, Founder, Lebanon Ministries, heard the thunderous voice of the Lord God telling her "I am the Lord thy God who brought thee out of the land of Egypt". That was the turn point in her Life. She is a powerfully anointed woman of God and has the wonderful privilege of the Lord speaking to her as a friend. She is anointed with all the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit. Right now she pastors a congregation at Mettu Irungalur - a village 25 Kms away from Trichy. She carries on the burden for Christ despite the tragic loss of her younger daughter Sharmila Joan in 2008. She is blessed with a loving and caring husband, A.P.K. Sona Jobarteh performed in Weimar on invitation of the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar and its UNESCO Chair of Transcultural Music Studies (TMS). The TMS Chair regularly invites artists to bring the musicology students into contact with various musical cultures for inspiration and exchange.
Sona Jobarteh is the first female Kora virtuoso to come from a west African Griot family. The Kora is one of the most important instruments belonging to the Manding peoples of West Africa (Gambia, Senegal, Mali, Guinea and Guinea-Bissau). It belongs exclusively to griot families, and usually only men who are born into these families have the right to take up the instrument professionally. Sona Jobarteh combines various genres of African Music and western musical elements.

Western media rely heavily on reports gathered by the two most influential Arab media organizations that indirectly play an import role in the turbulent events stirring up the Arab world. Focusing on two chief correspondents of Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya, we not only learn more about the often difficult conditions they have to work in, but also about their methods and journalistic views regarding the Arab revolution. Most importantly we investigate how far (or in what way?) the news channels they work for are subjected to the foreign and internal policy of the countries that finance them.
What is the role of Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya news broadcasters in recent revolutions in the Arab world? And how independent is their coverage actually, given their funders?

The western media are largely dependent on the announcements of the Arab news channels, especially those of Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya. Al Jazeera is funded by Qatar and Al Arabiya through Saudi Arabia. These two news stations are among the most influential organizations in the Arab world and play indirectly an important role in the current turbulent developments.
In this documentary we outline a portrait of two correspondents in Cairo who work for Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya. In addition, we learn not only about the often difficult and dangerous conditions they need to work, but also about their method of approach and journalistic vision of the Arab revolution. Furthermore, we investigate how (and in any way) the news broadcasters are bound to the domestic and foreign politics of the countries that finance them and speak Arab media experts from Egypt and Lebanon on this issue.
