Devo (/ˈdiːvoʊ/, originally /diːˈvoʊ/) is an American rock band formed in 1972, consisting of members from Kent and Akron, Ohio. The classic line-up of the band included two sets of brothers, the Mothersbaughs (Mark and Bob) and the Casales (Gerald and Bob), along with Alan Myers. The band had a No. 14 Billboard chart hit in 1980 with the single "Whip It", and has maintained a cult following throughout its existence.
Devo's style, over time, has shifted between punk rock, art rock, post-punk and new wave. Their music and stage show mingle kitsch science fiction themes, deadpan surrealist humor, and mordantly satirical social commentary. Their often discordant pop songs feature unusual synthetic instrumentation and time signatures that have proven influential on subsequent popular music, particularly new wave, industrial and alternative rock artists. Devo was also a pioneer of the music video, creating many memorable clips for the LaserDisc format, with "Whip It" getting heavy airplay in the early days of MTV.
Neil Percival Young, OC OM (born November 12, 1945) is a Canadian singer-songwriter and musician. He began performing in a group covering Shadows instrumentals in Canada in 1960, before moving to California in 1966, where he co-founded the band Buffalo Springfield together with Stephen Stills and Richie Furay, and later joined Crosby, Stills & Nash in 1969. He released his first album in 1968 and has since forged a successful and acclaimed solo career, spanning over 45 years and 35 studio albums, with a continuous and uncompromizing exploration of musical styles. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame website describes Young as "one of rock and roll's greatest songwriters and performers". He was inducted into the Hall of Fame twice, first as a solo artist in 1995, and second as a member of Buffalo Springfield in 1997.
Young's music is characterized by his distinctive guitar work, deeply personal lyrics and characteristic alto or high tenor singing voice. Although he accompanies himself on several different instruments, including piano and harmonica, his idiosyncratic electric and acoustic guitar playing are the defining characteristics of a varyingly ragged and melodic sound.

"Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)" is a rock song by Neil Young. Combined with its acoustic counterpart "My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue)", it bookends Young's successful 1979 album Rust Never Sleeps. Inspired by electropunk group Devo, the rise of punk and what Young viewed as his own growing irrelevance, the song significantly revitalized Young's career at the time, and today crosses generations, inspiring admirers from punk to grunge. The song is about the alternatives of continuing to produce similar music ("to rust" or – in "My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue)" – "to fade away") or to burn out.
A line from the song, "it's better to burn out than to fade away," became infamous after being quoted in Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain's suicide note. Young later said that he was so shaken that he dedicated his 1994 album Sleeps with Angels to Cobain. Because of Cobain's suicide, in live concerts he now emphasizes the line "once you're gone you can't come back".

As Virgil and Ruby learn to trust each other, they share their concerns: Ruby plans to win back custody of her four-year-old son and Virgil confesses the horrible and senseless crime that landed him in prison.

This interview was originally intended to be used in a documentary on the history of rock 'n' roll in 1995. It is unclear as to what stopped this from being shown on TV, but the footage was clearly early in the filming process for the special. Either way, this interview contains tons of background information on Devo, a lot of interesting insight into punk and rocks histories, and some really hilarious stories.
I DO NOT own any of the rights to this album. Another lost Devo album.Probably their weakest and worst album but, it's a very rare album. "DEV-O Live" is a live EP (and later live album) by American new wave band Devo. It was recorded during the Freedom of Choice tour of 1980, at The Fox Warfield Theatre. Initially only six songs from the show were released on an EP in 1981, intended for airplay use (largely for the King Biscuit Flower Hour). It featured the otherwise-unreleased "Freedom of Choice Theme Song" and a reworked version of "Be Stiff". Devo were given consistent radio support by Sydney-based noncommercial rock station 2JJ, one of the first rock stations outside America to play their recordings. This paid off, as in August 1981, they found commercial success in Australia when the EP spent 3 weeks at the top of the Australian singles charts.[3] Later in the year, they travelled to Australia and appeared on TV show ...

This interview was conducted by LA Times Pop Critic Robert Hilburn and was aired around Jan/Feb of 1981. I'm not sure which music show it was part of (Casey Casem's American Top 40?) but it featues Jerry Casale and Mark Mothersbaugh answering questions about the uproar that was caused by their latest song, "Whip It".
-October 1981- (New Traditionalists era) Interview w/ Jerry Casale & Mark Mothersbaugh. *First 15 seconds, the audio is out of sync, but the rest of it is fine* **LEAVE COMMENTS, LET ME KNOW PEOPLE ARE CHECKIN' THIS STUFF OUT. I MAY POST MORE.**
Dick Clark interviews Devo on American Bandstand
This interview was originally intended to be used in a documentary on the history of rock 'n' roll in 1995. It is unclear as to what stopped this from being shown on TV, but the footage was clearly early in the filming process for the special. Either way, this interview contains tons of background information on Devo, a lot of interesting insight into punk and rocks histories, and some really hilarious stories.
Jason Reed interviewing the guys about their current Hardcore Tour (featuring their music from the mid-70's) along with their fundraising efforts to raise money for the family of Bob Casale ("Bob 2") who passed away in February. Check out www.clubdevo.com for more information.

Extra's Adam Weissler talks to Devo's Mark Mothersbaugh and Jerry Casale. Includes tour of Devo rehearsal and recording space. At Devo headquarters, Mutato Muzika in Los Angeles. 2010.
1980 - Freedom Of Choice Era Interview w/ Jerry Casale & Mark Mothersbaugh Video isn't in best quality due to VHS tape decomposition. Converted to digital to maintain what quality is left. Still a good video, enjoy it for what it is.
Recently, we had the pleasure of interviewing DEVO’s very own Robert Mothersbaugh about his DEVO experience, some of his past stories as well as his current projects including Rugrats and Motown. As we like to call him, Bob took us through a witty interview about his journey working in the music industry. Bob grew up as just another kid in Akron, Ohio. He had odd jobs like working at an ice cream parlor and took piano lessons from his church pianist. He eventually picked up the guitar and became a guitar player, eventually joining DEVO with his brother Mark. Following DEVO Bob got involved in recording for TV-shows, commercials, and movies. Here's DEVO at the height of their powers from October of 1980. After the song they explain why they wear the headgear. Pretty funny interview. Merv Griffin had over 5000 guests appear on his show from 1963-1986. Footage from the Merv Griffin Show is available for licensing to all forms of media through Reelin' In The Years Productions. www.reelinintheyears.com.
In this clip from www.artistshousemusic.org - Mark Mothersbaugh, founder of landmark post-punk band Devo as well as production company Mutato Muzika, talks to Berkleemusic.com about learning to compose for film and television, why an education in music can give you an immeasurable career advantage (and why he wishes he'd gone to music school), what it's like working with Wes Anderson and Pee-Wee Herman, the connections between his visual art and his sonic art, and more.

I'VE BEEN WALKING IN A DEEP SLEEP
SLEEPWALKING BUT I JUST WOKE UP
FROM A DEEP SLEEP
A VERY DEEP SLEEP
I'VE BEEN RUNNING ON REMOTE CONTROL
IN A DEEP SLEEP
I AWOKE THE MOMENT I WAS TOLD
THAT A SMILE IS JUST A FROWN TURNED AROUND
ON THE FACE OF A CLOWN WITH A MEAN STREAK
IT WAS A DEEP SLEEP
A VERY DEEP SLEEP
I CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT I USED TO KNOW
SOMEBODY HELP ME NOW AND LET ME GO
INTO A DEEP SLEEP
PUSH ME BACK NOW LET ME GO
INTO A DREAM AGAIN
TO A SLEEP UNLIKE BEFORE
SO DEEP IT NEVER ENDS
I'VE BEEN CAUGHT INSIDE A DEEP SLEEP
SINKING DEEPER AFTER I FORGOT
SLEEPWALKING AS I WATCH MYSELF
IN A DEEP SLEEP
