  1. Coming unstuck already: Gove sending out a barely concealed signal here to Brexiteer Tories (in Telegraph article tomorrow) that - if they don’t like this ‘alignment’ business - they can always ditch their current leadership and opt to ‘diverge’

And all this to get what? Not trade talks - but talks about talks. Permission to work towards a ‘framework’ for future relationship is NOT THE SAME THING as a detailed trade deal. Parliament should be very wary of exit before seeing a full draft agreement on trade deal specifics

And what a surprise that the £divorce bill section agrees to pay so much, without any hint of a specific sum of money! It’s as though they don’t want us to know! I can’t hear Boris whistling though....

This Phase 1 text proves the point that the only real solution is UK staying in Single Market & Customs Union. PM basically conceding this, but pretending that “should this not be possible the UK will propose specific solutions” (to keep her hard Brexiteers from exploding)

Northern Ireland border issues kicked into long grass with finest Sir Humphrey-esque joint text. Agreeing ‘intention’ to ‘maintain full alignment’ but ‘should this not be possible the UK will propose specific solutions’. In other words, they’ll think about it all another day.

Brexit is turning out to be a vastly expensive exercise - which is why my amendment tonight would insist Ministers are transparent about the £sums + Parliament must vote to authorise the divorce bill

Happy to support 's amendment NC17 that would give Parliament the final approval over any financial settlement to the EU as part of negotiations. Strange those who argued Parliament should "take back control" are opposing it...

So the Cabinet never actually discussed ditching Single Market & Customs Union and STILL haven’t discussed future relationship with EU after . And if they do discuss it, they’ll not bother with any impact assessments... Hurtling towards the cliff edge, no questions asked!

In the Commons today, David Davis repeatedly said that a vote to leave was a vote to leave the SM - let's remember what leading leave campaigners said about staying in the SM. Please RT:

The clear solution to this government chaos is a deal that protects both the Good Friday agreement and our national economy after Brexit - UK remaining in the single market and customs union.
