A member of a paramilitary group watching the border in Brownsville has been arrested on federal weapons charges.
U.S. Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF) agents arrested Kevin Lyndel Massey in Brownsville on Monday morning.
The 48-year-old Quinlan, Texas man is accused of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Known to family and friends as KC, Massey is a member of a border watch group that set up Camp Lone Star in Brownsville following a surge of illegal immigration from Central America earlier this year.
Federal court records in the Brownsville case remain sealed at this time but show that there is more than one defendant named in the case.
State records show that Massey was convicted of burglary in Dallas back in 1988 when he was 21 years old.
Massey was paroled in 1993 and kept a clean record ever since.
Family members could not immediately be reached for comment but they reported on Facebook that federal agents arrived at his family's North Texas home where they seized their weapons.
Massey appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Ronald Morgan in Brownsville on Tuesday morning where he was denied bond until a Friday morning hearing.
