Benson is an American television sitcom which aired from September 13, 1979, to April 19, 1986, on ABC. The series was a spin-off from the soap opera parody Soap, in which the character Benson, portrayed by Robert Guillaume, had first appeared as the wise-cracking yet level-headed African-American butler for the highly dysfunctional Tate family. But the mayor believes the good Doctor is too old-fashioned, and wants to replace the doctor with a more "modern" medicine man, along with commissioning a new highway to be built through the town. When the mayor's young daughter is injured in an accident, Dr. Christian is able to perform extremely delicate surgery without having the correct medical instruments. The town counsil is so impressed with Dr. Christian that they not only allow him to keep his job, but have been convinced to build the new hospital.

Benson
In this spinoff of "Soap", Benson DuBois is sent out West to serve as butler to widowed state governor Gene Gatling, an honest but bumbling servant of the people. Although he has his rivals in German maid Kraus and persnickety aides Clayton and Taylor, Benson, armed with an acerbic wit and plenty of smarts, becomes the Governor's close friend and helper, and eventually is elected Lieutenant Governor!

Opening titles to the 2nd season of Witt-Thomas-Harris sitcom BENSON, starring the Emmy-winning Robert Guillaume. Series was a spin-off from SOAP (1977-81), also created by Susan Harris, and followed the sharp-witted butler Benson Dubois as he became head of household affairs for a US Governor. My ITV region, Ulster Television (UTV) showed Benson in a post-News at Ten slot on Friday nights in the early 1980s. These titles are the ones I remember best. Nifty theme tune by the great George Aliceson Tipton (1932-2016). BENSON is copyright Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Seasons 1 & 2 are available on DVD.

Series was a spin-off from SOAP (1977-81), also created by Susan Harris, and followed the sharp-witted butler Benson Dubois as he became head of household affairs for a US Governor. My ITV region, Ulster Television (UTV) showed Benson in a post-News at Ten slot on Friday nights in the early 1980s. These titles are the ones I remember best. Nifty theme tune by the great George Aliceson Tipton (1932-2016). BENSON is copyright Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Seasons 1 & 2 are available on DVD.

It was arguably Bobby Benson’s biggest hit song, the man generally considered one of the major influencers of Highlife music in Nigeria. “Taxi Driver” was originally released in the 1950s at time when most music were recorded and performed to live audiences. Coco Benson, the sexy and vocally talented grand-daughter of Bobby Benson, has been singing since she was ten and has appeared in several singing competitions in the U.S. like X-Factor, American Idol and Musik Star amongst others. The song was taken from a Las Vegas-themed Benson episode from many years ago. Benson was hypnotized into singing in front of an audience and this is the song he performed. I had this on a VHS tape ages ago and transferred only the audio about 20 years ago. By the way, the Kevin Guillaume who wrote this is his son. Angie is an American television sitcom that was originally broadcast by the ABC network from February 1979 until October 1980.
Starring Donna Pescow as the title character, the program was set in Philadelphia. The story revolved around one-time waitress Angie Falco Benson, her extremely wealthy new husband and former customer Brad Benson (played by Robert Hays), and the couple's two very different families: the blue-blooded Bensons and the urban Italian-American Falcos. Doris Roberts and Debralee Scott played Angie's mother Theresa and sister, Marie, respectively. A young Tammy Lauren played Brad's niece, Hilary; while actress Sharon Spelman played her overbearing mother, Joyce. Actor John Randolph played Brad and Joyce's stuffy father, Randall.
The show was a mid-season ratings hit during its first half-season on air. It ranked fifth for the 1978-79 season, thanks in big part to Thursday night lead-in Mork & Mindy, which ranked No. 3. However, ratings dropped drastically after a move to Tuesday for the start of the 1979-80 season, even though the show immediately followed the top-five hit Happy Days. Viewers lost interest in the interplay between the two lead characters after they were married in the season premiere, and many critics noted that much of the previously feisty chemistry that Pescow and Hays demonstrated on screen was apparently compromised once their characters were wed. The show was cancelled in its second season. 36 episodes in total were produced.
Reruns were played on ABC Daytime from June to September of 1985 after the program's cancellation as well as on TV Land in the late 1990s.
The show's theme song, "Different Worlds", was performed by Maureen McGovern and became a Top 20 Billboard (magazine) hit, reaching number 18 on the Pop charts and number one on the Adult Contemporary charts in 1979.

All episodes are currently available on region 1 DVD in 4 separate box sets. In the past, the series has rerun on local syndicated channels as well as on cable on Comedy Central and TV Land.

In the 1970s, Dr. Herbert Benson of Harvard Medical School ushered in a new era of understanding in the field of mind body medicine. Coining the term "relaxation response," Dr. Benson identified the body's physiologic reaction that is the exact opposite of the stress (fight-or-flight) response. In the four decades since that initial discovery, Benson and his colleagues have established the first effective therapy to counteract the harmful effects of stress.
