The 1975

The 1975 are a British alternative rock band formed in Manchester. The group consists of Matthew Healy (vocals, guitar), Adam Hann (guitar), George Daniel (drums, backing vocals) and Ross MacDonald (bass).

They have released four EPs, while their self-titled debut album was released on 2 September 2013 through Dirty Hit/Polydor. The album debuted at number 1 in the UK Albums Chart on 8 September 2013. The band has toured internationally.

History

2002–12: Formation

Matthew Healy (b. 8 April 1989), the son of actors Denise Welch and Tim Healy, grew up in Newcastle and Manchester. He met Ross MacDonald, Adam Hann and George Daniel at Wilmslow High School. In Wilmslow, Cheshire, south of Manchester, as teenagers and began to play music in 2002. The band formed when the local council worker organised a number of gigs for teenagers. Healy found Hann who "came up to [him] and said he wanted to play one of these shows." The band began by playing a number of covers until they "eventually wrote a song," according to Healy. "We started from then and we've been making music together since we were about 15." After Hann invited the members to form a band, they passed their early days covering punk songs in a local club. Healy was originally the drummer but took over vocals after the previous singer left to start another band. George Daniel was recruited as the new drummer to complete the final line-up.

1975

1975 (MCMLXXV) was a common year starting on Wednesday (dominical letter E) of the Gregorian calendar, the 1975th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 975th year of the 2nd millennium, the 75th year of the 20th century, and the 6th year of the 1970s decade. It was also declared the International Women's Year by the United Nations and the European Architectural Heritage Year by the Council of Europe.

Somebody Else

"Somebody Else" is a song by American R&B singer-songwriter Mario, featuring vocals from Nicki Minaj. The song was released in the United States as a digital download on May 21, 2013. The record contains a sample of the 1975 song "Remember the Rain", by R&B group 21st Century.

Background

Through his official Twitter page, on May 17, 2013, he confirmed that he has been working with Polow Da Don, for the track "Somebody Else" featuring rapper Nicki Minaj. R&B singer-songwriter Frank Ocean recorded a demo of the song as did Chris Brown who considered the song for his album Fortune.

Music video

The video was filmed on May 25, 2013 and directed by Alexandre Moors. The video premiered on July 8, 2013 on MTV Jams and it was premiered on July 10, 2013 on BET's 106 & Park. The video chronicles the dramatic ending of a relationship as Mario and Nicki square off in the video.

Matthew Timothy "Matty" Healy (born 8 April 1989) is an English musician, best known as the lead singer, guitarist and pianist for the indie rock band The 1975.

Early life

Healy was born in London, the son of actors Denise Welch and Tim Healy. He was raised in Newcastle in Northumberland before his parents moved to Macclesfield when Healy was 10 years old. He left school at 16 and worked in call centres and cafés.

Career

The 1975

In 2001, Healy met his to-be bandmates—guitarist and keyboardist Adam Hann, drummer and backing vocalist George Daniel, and bassist and backing vocalist Ross MacDonald—at Wilmslow High School in Wilmslow, a town close to Manchester. He states that a "hippy council worker" was putting on gigs for teenagers in Manchester and Hann approached him and MacDonald about forming a band. They started off with punk-rock and pop covers, until they wrote a song. Healy was originally the drummer for the band. However, the lead singer left to join another band, so he took over the position of lead vocalist. George Daniel was then recruited as the drummer, which completed the current lineup. The group kept going from then, performing under names like Drive Like I Do, TALKHOUSE!, the Big Sleep and the Slowdown until they settled with the name the 1975. A common question asked in interviews is where the band came up with their name. Healy was given a book at the age of 19 which was previously used as a diary. One of the dates written within the book was 1 June the 1975. He said the use of 'the' was very interesting and the name stuck with him. At first he did not see it as the name of his band but when they were trying to think of a new one he remembered that "and it was just perfect."

Out Now Consulting

Out Now Consulting is a marketing agency that provides specialised gay marketing services to large companies by researching gay lifestyles and using the information to develop strategies to target gay and lesbian consumers.

Origins

Although Out Now is a Dutch company, its origins lie in the formation of an Australian company, Significant Others, which after its establishment in 1992 became known in Australian media over subsequent years for its work as a specialist gay marketing agency.

Significant Others presented the Keynote address at the world's first gay marketing conference in 1994.

Following the establishment of an office in Amsterdam, Out Now became the first business of its kind with agencies in more than one country.

Activities are now undertaken in the US, UK, Germany, Belgium, France, Ireland and The Netherlands markets.

Out Now's role in the development of gay marketing in various countries has been discussed in the Dutch language edition of 'Principes van Marketing' (Principles of Marketing) - a marketing textbook - by Dr. Philip Kotler.
