Georgetown is a historic neighborhood, commercial, and entertainment district located in northwest Washington, D.C., situated along the Potomac River. Founded in 1751 in the Province of Maryland, the port of Georgetown predated the establishment of the federal district and the City of Washington by 40 years. Georgetown remained a separate municipality until 1871, when the United States Congress created a new consolidated government for the whole District of Columbia. A separate act passed in 1895 specifically repealed Georgetown's remaining local ordinances and renamed Georgetown's streets to conform with those in the City of Washington.
The primary commercial corridors of Georgetown are the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and M Street, which contain high-end shops, bars, restaurants, and the Georgetown Park enclosed shopping mall, as well as the Washington Harbour waterfront restaurants at K Street, between 30th and 31st Streets.
Georgetown is home to the main campus of Georgetown University and numerous other landmarks, such as the Volta Bureau and the Old Stone House, the oldest unchanged building in Washington. The embassies of Cameroon, France, Kosovo, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Mongolia, Sweden, Thailand, Ukraine and Venezuela are located in Georgetown.

Most of Fruendel's female victims broke down in tears or had cracking voices during emotional testimonies at the sentencing. One woman said she used "substances" to deal with finding out she was videotaped, while another woman said Fruendel trolled for more victims at her wedding. A judge sentenced Freundel to 45 days in prison for each of the 52 victims, calling his action...

Beyond Mere Words: If the Candidates' Rhetoric on Trade is Implemented, What Happens to the U.S. Economy? International trade has been a major issue in many U.S. presidential elections. However, in not one of these since World War II have both major party candidates rejected trade liberalization. This presents an almost revolutionary prospect. Some proponents believe these revisionist policies will correct imbalances and distortions in the trade-based economy. For others, they portend a collapse in the carefully constructed, complex trading system that the U.S. has led since the Great Depression -- with grave economic consequences for the U.S. and its trading partners. Given the differences in the candidates’ proposed trade policies, what are the economic impacts likely to be? This Geor...

Howard J. Federoff, MD, PhD, executive vice president for health sciences at Georgetown University Medical Center, is acutely aware of the hurdles facing the introduction of a sweeping new vision for health care, systems medicine. Federoff sees this approach impacting, not only how patient care is delivered, but perhaps even more importantly, how GUMC teaches, conducts research and engages with the community. As a concept, systems medicine is at once complex and straightforward. Federoff describes it as an approach that will allow health care providers to understand the interplay between genetics and the environment in such a way that they will be able to predict who is at greatest risk for disease, rather than simply reacting to symptoms.

Health Care Professional Cffice Georgetown DC. Many health care offices today are using medical billing software and electronic medical records. Most doctors, as well as office managers, view this transition as taking a step forward to being more efficient, more streamlined. While some physicians are still adjusting to the electronic age, most have warmly welcomed the change. Here are the top 7 reasons why: Time is Money - The time it takes for a nurse to write down notes on a chart, the doctor to read and decipher them, and the file clerk to pull and re-file the patient's records are man hours someone must be paid. Setting up electronic medical records allows nurses and physicians to directly key in notes into a secure database where the information on a patient are kept all together, sa...

In 1978, Georgetown made a bold decision: to meet the financial need of every single student who merits admission but cannot afford to pay tuition. Georgetown's meet-full-need policy joined an existing policy of need-blind admissions—the university's commitment to making admissions decisions solely on a candidate's merits without consideration for financial circumstances. President John J. DeGioia has called these two practices "the most significant policy decisions made in the modern history of Georgetown," opening the doors for an increasingly selective student body. By expanding funding for undergraduate financial aid, the 1789 Scholarship Imperative will make it possible for Georgetown to sustain its momentum in bringing the best students to campus. http://1789scholarships.ge...

As part of its bicentennial celebration in 1988-89, Georgetown University honors this remarkable community in a documentary video titled "Black Georgetown Remembered." Through the recollections of the members of the Georgetown black community, some of whom still reside in Georgetown, the documentary pays tribute to a community that thrived amidst slavery, Jim Crow laws, and economic inequity to emerge with a rare strength and identity. It features the remembrances of the decades of the 1940s to the 1950s when the population of Georgetown changed markedly. Georgetown is a historic neighborhood, commercial, and entertainment district located in northwest Washington, D.C., situated along the Potomac River. Founded in 1751 in the state of Maryland, the port of Georgetown predated the establishment of the federal district and the City of Washington by 40 years. The primary commercial corridors of Georgetown are the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue & M Street, which contain high-end shops, bars, restaurants, and the...

I joined a tour called “Colorado Rail Adventure” put together by “Vacations by Rail” to see and visit some of Colorado’s amazing railroads. Our first railroad was the “Georgetown Loop” a remnant of the once extensive 3 ft (914 mm) narrow gauge Colorado and Southern Railway. Today the line runs between Devil’s Gate High Bridge and Silver Plume along the narrow “Clear Creek” canyon crossing the creek four times along its twisting route that also includes a complete spiral. Our locomotive for this trip is Engine number 9, a three truck Shay type locomotive built by Lima Locomotive Works, Lima, Ohio in 1923. Before moving on we take a look at the historic township of Georgetown. Music - 00.00 - ES_Big Wheels by Hakan Eriksson from epedmicsound.com 35.07 – ES_Barefoot Summer 19 by Stefan Netsm...

This video complements the book "Black Georgetown Remembered" first published in 1991 and now available in a 25th anniversary commemorative hardcover edition: http://press.georgetown.edu/book/georgetown/black-georgetown-remembered Prod...
