Ricardo Gareca

Ricardo Alberto Gareca Nardi, nicknamed el Tigre (in English: "the Tiger") and el Flaco (in English: "the Skinny (one)"), (born 10 February 1958) is an Argentine football manager and former player. Currently he is the manager of Peru.

During his playing career, Gareca played for four of the most important teams in Argentina (Boca Juniors, River Plate, Vélez Sársfield and Independiente). He also had a successful experience in Colombia with América de Cali, winning two league titles and being runner-up of three Copa Libertadores.

Since 1996, Gareca works as a manager. He has won one league title in Peru (with Universitario de Deportes) and three in Argentina (with Vélez Sarsfield); as well as a second division championship and a Copa CONMEBOL with Talleres de Córdoba.

Playing career

Club

Gareca started his professional career in 1978 with Boca Juniors, where he only played 16 games in his first three years with the club. In 1981, he was loaned out to Sarmiento for the 1981 Metropolitano, but he returned to Boca for the Nacional where he played alongside Diego Maradona, scoring 8 goals in the championship.

Paolo Guerrero

José Paolo Guerrero Gonzales (Spanish pronunciation: [xoˈse paˈolo ɣeˈreɾo ɣonˈsales]; born 1 January 1984) is a Peruvian footballer who plays as a striker for Brazilian club Flamengo and the Peru national team.

He spent his early career in Germany, formed at Bayern Munich and later playing at Hamburger SV, amassing Bundesliga totals of 161 games and 47 goals across eight seasons. He later played in Brazil, scoring the goal which won the 2012 FIFA Club World Cup Final for Corinthians. He is widely regarded as one of the best strikers in the world.

Since his debut in 2004, Guerrero has earned over 60 caps for Peru, representing them at three Copa América tournaments. He helped them to third place in the 2011 and 2015 editions, also finishing as top scorer in both tournaments. Recently, Guerrero appeared in the 2015 FIFA Ballon d'Or 59 nominees list, making him the first Peruvian football player to achieve such international recognition.

Club career

Early career

Guerrero was born in Lima. He started playing football in the lower categories of Peruvian club Alianza Lima. In 2003, Guerrero signed a contract with Bavarian giants Bayern Munich. During 2003–04, Guerrero played in the Regionalliga Süd. He played 23 games and scored 21 goals. During the 2004–05 season, he joined fellow countryman, Claudio Pizarro, on the Bayern first team.

Yoshimar Yotún

Víctor Yoshimar Yotún Flores (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈbiktoɾ ʝosiˈmar ʝoˈtun ˈflores]; born 7 April 1990 in Callao, Peru) is a Peruvian footballer who currently plays for Malmö FF and the Peru national team, as a left back or left winger.

Club career

Early career

Yotún first began by playing at the age of 7 in the youth academy Academia Deportiva Cantolao until the age of 12. Then he joined the youth divisions of Circolo Sportivo Italiano for two seasons. Then the following years he was in the youth divisions of Deportivo Real FC, alongside Manuel Tejada. In 2007 he transferred to one of Peru's biggest clubs, Sporting Cristal, and played in their youth team.

José Gálvez FBC

In January 2008 he was loaned out to José Gálvez FBC for the 2008 Descentralizado season. There Yotún made his professional debut on 5 March 2008 in the Torneo Descentralizado in an away league match against Coronel Bolognesi FC. He entered the match in the 46th minute for Renzo Guevara, and the match finished in a 1–1 draw. Yotún scored his first official goal on 9 March 2008 in a league match at home against Atlético Minero, which resulted in 1–0 win for his club. He played his last game for José Gálvez FBC on 14 December 2008 in the last fixture of the season, which finished in a 2–2 draw at home against Universidad San Martin. He made a total of 28 league appearances and scored 3 goals in his first season in the Descentralizado. This contributed to his club José Gálvez avoiding relegation that season by finishing in 9th place, just 5 points above the relegation zone.

Ricardo is the Portuguese, Spanish cognate of the name Richard. Therefore, the name means "Powerful/Great Leader".
