In college athletics in the United States, institutions typically join together in conferences for regular play under different governing bodies.
There are several national and regional associations governing the varsity teams of colleges and universities. Varsity teams are typically funded by an institution's athletic department, and under some governing bodies players are eligible for athletic scholarships.

Durham College baseball head coach Sam Dempster recently signed four recruits in preparation for the upcoming OCAA season. On the mound the Lords have added right-handed pitcher Travis Doyle of Grimsby. The 6’2 righty has spent the last four years with the Hamilton Cardinals in the Central Ontario Baseball Association (COBA) and with the Grimsby Secondary School Eagles. In 2015 with the Cardinals he was named the offensive player of the year, while winning the COBA championship three straight years from 2012 to 2014. With the Eagles he was a member of their 2013 and 2014 zone championship teams. Behind the plate Braden Weir will add to Durham’s catching depth. The Whitby native played at Jefferson Community College in the National Junior College Athletic Association from 2013 to 2015. ...
Coach Lindsey Thompson is entering her first season as assistant coach of the Indians softball program. In 2016, Thompson was a volunteer coach for the Indians. ICC finished 39-10 on the year and ranked No. 10 in the final National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) poll.

Eastern Oklahoma, Maple Woods (Missouri) and Delgado (Louisiana) compete in the three-team, double-elimination event beginning Saturday, May 21. The entire South Central District Championship will air live on SportsNOLA.com and will be simulcast on Delgado’s student radio station, Dolphin Radio 98.9 FM. The winner of the tournament advances to the JUCO World Series beginning May 28 in Grand Junction, Colorado.
