Durham College baseball head coach Sam Dempster recently signed four recruits in preparation for the upcoming OCAA season. On the mound the Lords have added right-handed pitcher Travis Doyle of Grimsby. The 6’2 righty has spent the last four years with the Hamilton Cardinals in the Central Ontario Baseball Association (COBA) and with the Grimsby Secondary School Eagles. In 2015 with the Cardinals he was named the offensive player of the year, while winning the COBA championship three straight years from 2012 to 2014. With the Eagles he was a member of their 2013 and 2014 zone championship teams. Behind the plate Braden Weir will add to Durham’s catching depth. The Whitby native played at Jefferson Community College in the National Junior College Athletic Association from 2013 to 2015. In 2012, while with the Ontario Prospects squad he was named the most dedicated player and received a gold glove award on the Fergie Jenkins League championship team. Lindsay’s Logan Stewart will be a key addition in a utility role for the Lords. The graduate of Lindsay Collegiate and Vocational Institute has spent the last two seasons with the Oshawa Junior Legionaires, where he was named team MVP in 2014. At the collegiate level he played from 2013 to 2015 with Macomb College in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association. Prior to that he spent three years with the Ontario Terriers in the Premier Baseball League of Ontario. As a U-16 player he was awarded the league’s top hitter award. Tristan Willcocks of Whitby rounds out the Lords signings for the 2016 season. He joins Durham after the last playing for the Toronto Mets. Prior to the Mets he was with the Ontario Prospects from 2012 to 2014 and Whitby Chiefs 2010 to 2012. Durham’s training camp opens Aug. 22 at Kinsmen Stadium, while their regular season doesn’t get underway until Sept. 9 at Seneca. Their home opener is Sept. 11 against the George Brown Huskies.
