“A common overbooking problem on a United Airlines flight on Sunday ended with a man being bloodied and dragged from his seat and an already troubled airline earning more bad press. How did it all go so wrong?
Overbooking on flights happens all the time. Empty seats cost airlines money, so they offset the number of passengers who miss flights by selling too many tickets.
In this case, the problem arose because United decided at the last minute to fly four members of staff to a connection point and needed to bump four passengers to make way for them.
When there's an overbooking issue the first step is to offer an inducement to the passengers to take a later flight. On Sunday passengers were offered $400 (£322), a hotel room for the night, and a flight the following afternoon.
When no one took the offer, the amount was upped to $800. Still no one bit, so a manager boarded the flight and informed passengers that four people would be selected to leave the flight.
That selection is based on several factors, but frequent fliers and higher fare-paying passengers are given priority to stay aboard, a spokeswoman for United confirmed.”

Flying first class is always an extra luxury that people with money can enjoy in their air travel. You can’t beat first class with the wider seats, the beverages, better food, and service that makes you feel like you’re royalty. If you’re flying across the country, then first class is definitely more comfortable, and you rarely have to deal with the tiny seats and being forced to be in closed quarters with complete strangers. But there are airlines who have taken the concept of first class and bumped it up a notched. Here are some of the most luxurious first class sections in the airline industry. The cost? Well, let’s just say you’ll probably have to save your salary for the next several years to be able to afford it.
For $13,000 you can be a premiere passenger on an Air France flight, which includes a space where you can store all of your valuables, along with a bed, a reading lamp, and curtains so you can have some privacy. Quantas Airlines has a set up similar to that and puts it on steroids. If you’ve ever wanted to have the feeling like you’re on your very own jet, Quantas is the way to go with your own privacy pod that comes with its own suite, as well as a common area for wealthy passengers to get together and mingle. This can be all yours for $13,500.
Ever wanted to know what it’s like to be tucked into bed by a flight attendant? Well, Singapore Airlines does just that. You’re immediately given pajamas that are designed by Givenchy, and toiletries by Ferragamo. Your seat can also be transformed into a fluffy bed, where the flight attendants will see to it that you’re tucked in and comfy. Tickets for this experience starts at $15,000.
For $25,000, you can have the ultimate first class experience with Cathay Pacific Airlines, where you can have your own pod. This includes a chair that silently transforms into a full length bed. The pod is also adorned with a vase with orchids, so you feel a bit more at home and close to nature. Lufthansa has taken the first class game and improved it. Not only do you get a big comfy chair, but you get a bed as well. The chair is pumped with gadgets as well for your enjoyment. You don’t even have to worry about breathing dry air, as the cabin is pumped with a humidifier. Tickets for this experience starts at $27,000.
Finally, these last two airlines are basically like flying hotel rooms. Emirates Airlines offers a private cabin with a mini bar, adjustable lighting, as well as a full shower with a marble sink. So if you really need to freshen up, it’s a lot better than the tiny bathroom in coach. They even have a communal lounge where you can enjoy drinks and hors d’ouerves. All of this can be yours for $30,000. Finally, we have Etihad Airways, who have diamond first class suites with three room cabins. These cabins also include a full size bathroom with a luxurious shower. You can even have your own butler! What’s the cost? $43,000.

8- WOW Airline – A plane owned and operated by the Icelandic airline WOW has unveiled a huge pink plane called “GAY.” Named in February 2016, the plane serves a route to San Francisco and the name is a nod to the gay movement there. The company is known for its unique naming system and has other planes named such things as MOM, DAD, SIS, BRO, and KID. When asked if he worried that people may not want to fly around in a pink plane named GAY, the CEO explained “If I were worried or scared of what people might say about me or what I do, then WOW air wouldn't exist."
7- Free Massages – Air Malta definitely knows what passengers want – and gives it to them! Air Malta provides two professional therapists to help ease tension and the stress of flying with hand, feet and neck massages. The passengers just sit back, relax and enjoy relaxing music through head phones, while the massage therapists get to work. The massages are offered on flights between Gatwick and Malta and the airline says it’s just the beginning of services that will be offered to “enhance the customer’s experience.”
6- Hooters Air – We’re going to assume most passengers just flew this airline for wings, right? Though this airline is now out of business, the popular restaurant chain did try its hand at flight in 2003. Each flight on Hooters Air came fully equipped with two Hooters girls and flight attendants that entertained passengers with trivia games, sold Hooters merchandise, and assisted with beverage service. The inside and outside of the aircrafts also had a Hooters flair. Keeping with the chains traditional colors passengers had large blue leather seats to sit on, and it wasn’t hard to miss the blue and orange aircrafts with the Hooter’s owl on the tail. The airline eventually folded in 2006.
5- Cuddle Class – Airplane seats that can convert to couches or beds – sign us up! Air New Zealand started offering its passengers this perk in 2011. They call the seats “Skycouches” and they allow people to kick their feet up and relax with their loved ones. The Skycouch is a row of economy seats that can be turned into the couch for passengers to stretch out or to have a place for antsy children to spread out and play.
4- Virtual Reality Flight – This is definitely the coolest flight on our list. The Australian airline Qantas teamed up with Samsung in 2015 to begin offering passengers a virtual reality experience like no other on long flights. The virtual reality gear was available for first class passengers on flights in Sydney and Melbourne, and some flights from Australia to Los Angeles. The virtual reality equipment is produced with Oculus and operated using Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Qantas uses the experience to show off the airline’s destinations and services to passengers.
3- Art Gallery – If you’re a fan of art, you’ll love the Virgin Atlantic Upper-class flights between London and New York. The airline unveiled its first in-flight commercial art gallery in February 2013. Appropriately called the Gallery in the Air, the exhibit featured many typography-style works by Ben Eine. Prices for the pieces range between £2,500 to £15,000. This artists’ claim to fame is when David Cameron gave one of his pieces to President Obama as a gift during his first state visit to Washington. Passengers on board would take a virtual tour of the exhibit and could purchase pieces the same way you would purchase duty-free items.
2- Uber – Following the Uber trend, United Airlines got smart and started offering passengers the option of ordering up a ride through their mobile app. Allowing passengers to bypass the long airport taxi lines and hop right into a waiting vehicle, the app offers information such as types of vehicles available, estimated wait times and prices. Once the passenger has signed up for a ride on the United Airlines app, they are then directed to the Uber app to complete the transaction. Customers new to Uber were even rewarded with Mileage Plus award miles to promote the service.
1- Full VIP Service – The airline La Compagnie flies passengers from New York to Paris in style. The seats are massage chairs and recline back into beds. The food served on board is not your typical airplane food, the menu Michelin star worthy. And as if those perks weren’t enough, the airline provides Samsung entertainment tablets to each passengers. It’s hard not to feel like a VIP on board this flight. The only hitch, you’d better be a VIP to be able to afford this one-way transatlantic flight. The standard cost when the flight was launched was £1200 euro – or $1400.

History
The first airlines
DELAG, Deutsche Luftschiffahrts-Aktiengesellschaft was the world's first airline. It was founded on November 16, 1909 with government assistance, and operated airships manufactured by The Zeppelin Corporation. Its headquarters were in Frankfurt. The first fixed wing scheduled air service was started on January 1, 1914 from St. Petersburg, Florida to Tampa, Florida. The four oldest non-dirigible airlines that still exist are Netherlands' KLM, Colombia's Avianca, Australia's Qantas, Polish AeroTarg, and the Czech Republic's Czech Airlines. KLM first flew in May 1920, while Qantas (which stands for Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services Limited) was founded in Queensland, Australia, in late 1920.

You can’t beat first class with the wider seats, the beverages, better food, and service that makes you feel like you’re royalty. If you’re flying across the country, then first class is definitely more comfortable, and you rarely have to deal with the tiny seats and being forced to be in closed quarters with complete strangers. But there are airlines who have taken the concept of first class and bumped it up a notched. Here are some of the most luxurious first class sections in the airline industry. The cost? Well, let’s just say you’ll probably have to save your salary for the next several years to be able to afford it. For $13,000 you can be a premiere passenger on an Air France flight, which includes a space where you can store all of your valuables, along with a bed, a reading lamp, and curtains so you can have some privacy. Quantas Airlines has a set up similar to that and puts it on steroids. If you’ve ever wanted to have the feeling like you’re on your very own jet, Quantas is the way to go with your own privacy pod that comes with its own suite, as well as a common area for wealthy passengers to get together and mingle. This can be all yours for $13,500. Ever wanted to know what it’s like to be tucked into bed by a flight attendant? Well, Singapore Airlines does just that. You’re immediately given pajamas that are designed by Givenchy, and toiletries by Ferragamo. Your seat can also be transformed into a fluffy bed, where the flight attendants will see to it that you’re tucked in and comfy. Tickets for this experience starts at $15,000. For $25,000, you can have the ultimate first class experience with Cathay Pacific Airlines, where you can have your own pod. This includes a chair that silently transforms into a full length bed. The pod is also adorned with a vase with orchids, so you feel a bit more at home and close to nature. Lufthansa has taken the first class game and improved it. Not only do you get a big comfy chair, but you get a bed as well. The chair is pumped with gadgets as well for your enjoyment. You don’t even have to worry about breathing dry air, as the cabin is pumped with a humidifier. Tickets for this experience starts at $27,000. Finally, these last two airlines are basically like flying hotel rooms. Emirates Airlines offers a private cabin with a mini bar, adjustable lighting, as well as a full shower with a marble sink. So if you really need to freshen up, it’s a lot better than the tiny bathroom in coach. They even have a communal lounge where you can enjoy drinks and hors d’ouerves. All of this can be yours for $30,000. Finally, we have Etihad Airways, who have diamond first class suites with three room cabins. These cabins also include a full size bathroom with a luxurious shower. You can even have your own butler! What’s the cost? $43,000. Subscribe for weekly wacky videos and learn interesting facts about the world with awesome top 10 lists and other amazing videos. 8- WOW Airline – A plane owned and operated by the Icelandic airline WOW has unveiled a huge pink plane called “GAY.” Named in February 2016, the plane serves a route to San Francisco and the name is a nod to the gay movement there. The company is known for its unique naming system and has other planes named such things as MOM, DAD, SIS, BRO, and KID. When asked if he worried that people may not want to fly around in a pink plane named GAY, the CEO explained “If I were worried or scared of what people might say about me or what I do, then WOW air wouldn't exist." 7- Free Massages – Air Malta definitely knows what passengers want – and gives it to them! Air Malta provides two professional therapists to help ease tension and the stress of flying with hand, feet and neck massages. The passengers just sit back, relax and enjoy relaxing music through head phones, while the massage therapists get to work. The massages are offered on flights between Gatwick and Malta and the airline says it’s just the beginning of services that will be offered to “enhance the customer’s experience.” 6- Hooters Air – We’re going to assume most passengers just flew this airline for wings, right? Though this airline is now out of business, the popular restaurant chain did try its hand at flight in 2003. Each flight on Hooters Air came fully equipped with two Hooters girls and flight attendants that entertained passengers with trivia games, sold Hooters merchandise, and assisted with beverage service. The inside and outside of the aircrafts also had a Hooters flair. Keeping with the chains traditional colors passengers had large blue leather seats to sit on, and it wasn’t hard to miss the blue and orange aircrafts with the Hooter’s owl on the tail. The airline eventually folded in 2006. 5- Cuddle Class – Airplane seats that can convert to couches or beds – sign us up! Air New Zealand started offering its passengers this perk in 2011. They call the seats “Skycouches” and they allow people to kick their feet up and relax with their loved ones. The Skycouch is a row of economy seats that can be turned into the couch for passengers to stretch out or to have a place for antsy children to spread out and play. 4- Virtual Reality Flight – This is definitely the coolest flight on our list. The Australian airline Qantas teamed up with Samsung in 2015 to begin offering passengers a virtual reality experience like no other on long flights. The virtual reality gear was available for first class passengers on flights in Sydney and Melbourne, and some flights from Australia to Los Angeles. The virtual reality equipment is produced with Oculus and operated using Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Qantas uses the experience to show off the airline’s destinations and services to passengers. 3- Art Gallery – If you’re a fan of art, you’ll love the Virgin Atlantic Upper-class flights between London and New York. The airline unveiled its first in-flight commercial art gallery in February 2013. Appropriately called the Gallery in the Air, the exhibit featured many typography-style works by Ben Eine. Prices for the pieces range between £2,500 to £15,000. This artists’ claim to fame is when David Cameron gave one of his pieces to President Obama as a gift during his first state visit to Washington. Passengers on board would take a virtual tour of the exhibit and could purchase pieces the same way you would purchase duty-free items. 2- Uber – Following the Uber trend, United Airlines got smart and started offering passengers the option of ordering up a ride through their mobile app. Allowing passengers to bypass the long airport taxi lines and hop right into a waiting vehicle, the app offers information such as types of vehicles available, estimated wait times and prices. Once the passenger has signed up for a ride on the United Airlines app, they are then directed to the Uber app to complete the transaction. Customers new to Uber were even rewarded with Mileage Plus award miles to promote the service. 1- Full VIP Service – The airline La Compagnie flies passengers from New York to Paris in style. The seats are massage chairs and recline back into beds. The food served on board is not your typical airplane food, the menu Michelin star worthy. And as if those perks weren’t enough, the airline provides Samsung entertainment tablets to each passengers. It’s hard not to feel like a VIP on board this flight. The only hitch, you’d better be a VIP to be able to afford this one-way transatlantic flight. The standard cost when the flight was launched was £1200 euro – or $1400.

Overbooking on flights happens all the time. Empty seats cost airlines money, so they offset the number of passengers who miss flights by selling too many tickets.
In this case, the problem arose because United decided at the last minute to fly four members of staff to a connection point and needed to bump four passengers to make way for them.
When there's an overbooking issue the first step is to offer an inducement to the passengers to take a later flight. On Sunday passengers were offered $400 (£322), a hotel room for the night, and a flight the following afternoon.
When no one took the offer, the amount was upped to $800. Still no one bit, so a manager boarded the flight and informed passengers that four people would be selected to leave the flight.
That selection is based on several factors, but frequent fliers and higher fare-paying passengers are given priority to stay aboard, a spokeswoman for United confirmed.”

Flying first class is always an extra luxury that people with money can enjoy in their air travel. You can’t beat first class with the wider seats, the beverages, better food, and service that makes you feel like you’re royalty. If you’re flying across the country, then first class is definitely more comfortable, and you rarely have to deal with the tiny seats and being forced to be in closed quarters with complete strangers. But there are airlines who have taken the concept of first class and bumped it up a notched. Here are some of the most luxurious first class sections in the airline industry. The cost? Well, let’s just say you’ll probably have to save your salary for the next several years to be able to afford it.
For $13,000 you can be a premiere passenger on an Air France flight, which includes a space where you can store all of your valuables, along with a bed, a reading lamp, and curtains so you can have some privacy. Quantas Airlines has a set up similar to that and puts it on steroids. If you’ve ever wanted to have the feeling like you’re on your very own jet, Quantas is the way to go with your own privacy pod that comes with its own suite, as well as a common area for wealthy passengers to get together and mingle. This can be all yours for $13,500.
Ever wanted to know what it’s like to be tucked into bed by a flight attendant? Well, Singapore Airlines does just that. You’re immediately given pajamas that are designed by Givenchy, and toiletries by Ferragamo. Your seat can also be transformed into a fluffy bed, where the flight attendants will see to it that you’re tucked in and comfy. Tickets for this experience starts at $15,000.
For $25,000, you can have the ultimate first class experience with Cathay Pacific Airlines, where you can have your own pod. This includes a chair that silently transforms into a full length bed. The pod is also adorned with a vase with orchids, so you feel a bit more at home and close to nature. Lufthansa has taken the first class game and improved it. Not only do you get a big comfy chair, but you get a bed as well. The chair is pumped with gadgets as well for your enjoyment. You don’t even have to worry about breathing dry air, as the cabin is pumped with a humidifier. Tickets for this experience starts at $27,000.
Finally, these last two airlines are basically like flying hotel rooms. Emirates Airlines offers a private cabin with a mini bar, adjustable lighting, as well as a full shower with a marble sink. So if you really need to freshen up, it’s a lot better than the tiny bathroom in coach. They even have a communal lounge where you can enjoy drinks and hors d’ouerves. All of this can be yours for $30,000. Finally, we have Etihad Airways, who have diamond first class suites with three room cabins. 8- WOW Airline – A plane owned and operated by the Icelandic airline WOW has unveiled a huge pink plane called “GAY.” Named in February 2016, the plane serves a route to San Francisco and the name is a nod to the gay movement there. The company is known for its unique naming system and has other planes named such things as MOM, DAD, SIS, BRO, and KID. When asked if he worried that people may not want to fly around in a pink plane named GAY, the CEO explained “If I were worried or scared of what people might say about me or what I do, then WOW air wouldn't exist."
7- Free Massages – Air Malta definitely knows what passengers want – and gives it to them! Air Malta provides two professional therapists to help ease tension and the stress of flying with hand, feet and neck massages. The passengers just sit back, relax and enjoy relaxing music through head phones, while the massage therapists get to work. The massages are offered on flights between Gatwick and Malta and the airline says it’s just the beginning of services that will be offered to “enhance the customer’s experience.”
6- Hooters Air – We’re going to assume most passengers just flew this airline for wings, right? Though this airline is now out of business, the popular restaurant chain did try its hand at flight in 2003. Each flight on Hooters Air came fully equipped with two Hooters girls and flight attendants that entertained passengers with trivia games, sold Hooters merchandise, and assisted with beverage service. The inside and outside of the aircrafts also had a Hooters flair. Keeping with the chains traditional colors passengers had large blue leather seats to sit on, and it wasn’t hard to miss the blue and orange aircrafts with the Hooter’s owl on the tail. The airline eventually folded in 2006.
5- Cuddle Class – Airplane seats that can convert to couches or beds – sign us up! Air New Zealand started offering its passengers this perk in 2011. They call the seats “Skycouches” and they allow people to kick their feet up and relax with their loved ones. The Skycouch is a row of economy seats that can be turned into the couch for passengers to stretch out or to have a place for antsy children to spread out and play.
4- Virtual Reality Flight – This is definitely the coolest flight on our list. The Australian airline Qantas teamed up with Samsung in 2015 to begin offering passengers a virtual reality experience like no other on long flights. The virtual reality gear was available for first class passengers on flights in Sydney and Melbourne, and some flights from Australia to Los Angeles. The virtual reality equipment is produced with Oculus and operated using Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Qantas uses the experience to show off the airline’s destinations and services to passengers.
3- Art Gallery – If you’re a fan of art, you’ll love the Virgin Atlantic Upper-class flights between London and New York. The airline unveiled its first in-flight commercial art gallery in February 2013. Appropriately called the Gallery in the Air, the exhibit featured many typography-style works by Ben Eine. Prices for the pieces range between £2,500 to £15,000. This artists’ claim to fame is when David Cameron gave one of his pieces to President Obama as a gift during his first state visit to Washington. Passengers on board would take a virtual tour of the exhibit and could purchase pieces the same way you would purchase duty-free items.
2- Uber – Following the Uber trend, United Airlines got smart and started offering passengers the option of ordering up a ride through their mobile app. Allowing passengers to bypass the long airport taxi lines and hop right into a waiting vehicle, the app offers information such as types of vehicles available, estimated wait times and prices. Once the passenger has signed up for a ride on the United Airlines app, they are then directed to the Uber app to complete the transaction. Customers new to Uber were even rewarded with Mileage Plus award miles to promote the service.
1- Full VIP Service – The airline La Compagnie flies passengers from New York to Paris in style. The seats are massage chairs and recline back into beds. The food served on board is not your typical airplane food, the menu Michelin star worthy. And as if those perks weren’t enough, the airline provides Samsung entertainment tablets to each passengers. It’s hard not to feel like a VIP on board this flight. The only hitch, you’d better be a VIP to be able to afford this one-way transatlantic flight. The standard cost when the flight was launched was £1200 euro – or $1400.

Though this airline is now out of business, the popular restaurant chain did try its hand at flight in 2003. Each flight on Hooters Air came fully equipped with two Hooters girls and flight attendants that entertained passengers with trivia games, sold Hooters merchandise, and assisted with beverage service. The inside and outside of the aircrafts also had a Hooters flair. Keeping with the chains traditional colors passengers had large blue leather seats to sit on, and it wasn’t hard to miss the blue and orange aircrafts with the Hooter’s owl on the tail. The airline eventually folded in 2006.
5- Cuddle Class – Airplane seats that can convert to couches or beds – sign us up! Air New Zealand started offering its passengers this perk in 2011. They call the seats “Skycouches” and they allow people to kick their feet up and relax with their loved ones. The Skycouch is a row of economy seats that can be turned into the couch for passengers to stretch out or to have a place for antsy children to spread out and play.
4- Virtual Reality Flight – This is definitely the coolest flight on our list. The Australian airline Qantas teamed up with Samsung in 2015 to begin offering passengers a virtual reality experience like no other on long flights. The virtual reality gear was available for first class passengers on flights in Sydney and Melbourne, and some flights from Australia to Los Angeles. The virtual reality equipment is produced with Oculus and operated using Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Qantas uses the experience to show off the airline’s destinations and services to passengers.
3- Art Gallery – If you’re a fan of art, you’ll love the Virgin Atlantic Upper-class flights between London and New York. The airline unveiled its first in-flight commercial art gallery in February 2013. Appropriately called the Gallery in the Air, the exhibit featured many typography-style works by Ben Eine. Prices for the pieces range between £2,500 to £15,000. This artists’ claim to fame is when David Cameron gave one of his pieces to President Obama as a gift during his first state visit to Washington. Passengers on board would take a virtual tour of the exhibit and could purchase pieces the same way you would purchase duty-free items.
2- Uber – Following the Uber trend, United Airlines got smart and started offering passengers the option of ordering up a ride through their mobile app. Allowing passengers to bypass the long airport taxi lines and hop right into a waiting vehicle, the app offers information such as types of vehicles available, estimated wait times and prices. Once the passenger has signed up for a ride on the United Airlines app, they are then directed to the Uber app to complete the transaction. Customers new to Uber were even rewarded with Mileage Plus award miles to promote the service.
1- Full VIP Service – The airline La Compagnie flies passengers from New York to Paris in style. The seats are massage chairs and recline back into beds. The food served on board is not your typical airplane food, the menu Michelin star worthy. And as if those perks weren’t enough, the airline provides Samsung entertainment tablets to each passengers. It’s hard not to feel like a VIP on board this flight. The only hitch, you’d better be a VIP to be able to afford this one-way transatlantic flight. The standard cost when the flight was launched was £1200 euro – or $1400.

This guy looks like he’s having the best, most relaxing time. Every first class flyer is ensured a window seat as there are no in-between seats available to make room for the pod-like seating arrangement. And don’t worry, they do in fact serve Indian food and it’s supposed to be very, very good.

Virgin Atlantic doesn’t even wait for you to get to the airport to start your Upper Class experience. A limo can come pick you up to take you to the airport. After that, you end up at the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse where airline customers have the option of chilling with a drink, some food, wifi, or, if you like, a haircut as the clubhouse usually has a salon or spa.When you’re \on the plane, a nice flat bed waits for you in herringbone seating patterns to give you as much space as possible. On top of all these nice amenities you get for paying first class prices, seating arrangement is free. And when you get back home? There’s a limo for that, too.

There are usually 12 seats, or suites, in the Asiana First Class cabin. While it’s not the biggest amount of space, it’s pretty ample, plus you can completely close your suite off. The television they also provide is 32” and is possibly the largest screen any airline carries. The luxury seat folds out into a bed, which measures at 210 cm long. There’s a personal mini bar and an extra seat should a companion visit you.

While the seating arrangements are roomy on these first class flights, at first glance, Qatar’s First Class cabin doesn’t look that different from most other luxury airlines on this list. However, the reviews are high for this one and it probably has to do with all the little things that can make a difference. First off, their first class in Al Safwa are something else in itself. There’s a mini hotel, a prayer room, a spa, duty free shops, and workstations all in a setting that looks like it’s from some high-tech future. The seats in the cabin do appear a little wider and is designed with more open space instead of secluded ones. Plus, there’s a bar onboard complete with a bartender and some treats.

Not only does Emirate’s first class offer you all the benefits of most other first class airlines like generous leg room, tv, fancy food, and drinks--you can even get what they call “moisturizing sleepwear” where the fabric is said to release nutrients from sea kelp to prevent dry skin from dehydration and--for those really long flights--the pajamas help stimulate circulation, too.

Pets - Some people like to take their pets on holiday, so they load them into little cages and they go on the plane, in the luggage hold. Pilots' Food - In the classic comedy film Airplane, when everyone, including the pilots, who have eaten the fish get sick from food poisoning, chaos and hilarity ensues. The truth about the oxygen masks. - During the safety briefing, assuming you’ve turned off your electronic device, you’ll hear that in an emergency, oxygen masks will drop down. These lovely yellow masks will help you breathe normally at high altitude until cabin pressure is restored. What the airlines don't tell you is that there is only 15 minutes' worth of oxygen in those masks. Don’t worry too much though. 15 minutes should be more than enough time for the pilot to get the plane to a lower altitude, where the air is breathable. What you need to remember is that from the time the masks drop down, you’ve got between 15 and 20 seconds to put it on before you pass out. If you have kids put yours on first before you do theirs. Happy landings - Ever wondered why, if your plane is landing at night, they dim the lights in the cabin when you’re about to land? That's because if the landing goes wrong and they need to evacuate the plane, your eyes are already adjusted to the darkness. While we’re on the subject of plane bathrooms, bear in mind that they can unlock from the outside. There’s usually a catch under the ‘No Smoking’ sign that can open the door in an emergency. When things go wrong - Data shows that things go wrong on flights more than we think. At London Heathrow, they get an emergency landing about once a week. Yet if you’re a passenger, you may never even know it’s happening. Communication between the cockpit and cattle class is strictly on a ‘need to know’ basis. Sleep - Pilots’ working rules state that they can be on duty for anything up to 16 hours at a time. 9. Air France
Air France’s La Première cabin looks more like a lounge in a house or office rather than on an airplane. The space in their first class section is open, with lots of room to walk around when you’re allowed to. If you feel like you need more privacy, you can close off your area with a curtain and rest your feet on the ottoman that comes with your seat. Plus, the seats are supposedly memory foam, which is a plus for any comfort fanatics out there.
8. Cathay Pacific
Some first class cabins on Cathay Pacific flights only have six seats, and it makes sense. When you have as much room for a bed, storage, tv, and an amenity kit that comes with high end toiletries and sleepwear.
7. Air India
On air India’s website, it says you can find the “true meaning of luxury” and do so while sinking “your feet into the plush carpet.” Their seats are 180 degree reclining, which means you get a bed. This guy looks like he’s having the best, most relaxing time. Every first class flyer is ensured a window seat as there are no in-between seats available to make room for the pod-like seating arrangement. And don’t worry, they do in fact serve Indian food and it’s supposed to be very, very good.
6. Virgin Atlantic Upper Class
Virgin Atlantic doesn’t even wait for you to get to the airport to start your Upper Class experience. A limo can come pick you up to take you to the airport. After that, you end up at the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse where airline customers have the option of chilling with a drink, some food, wifi, or, if you like, a haircut as the clubhouse usually has a salon or spa.When you’re \on the plane, a nice flat bed waits for you in herringbone seating patterns to give you as much space as possible. On top of all these nice amenities you get for paying first class prices, seating arrangement is free. And when you get back home? There’s a limo for that, too.
5. Asiana First Class Suite
There are usually 12 seats, or suites, in the Asiana First Class cabin. While it’s not the biggest amount of space, it’s pretty ample, plus you can completely close your suite off. The television they also provide is 32” and is possibly the largest screen any airline carries. The luxury seat folds out into a bed, which measures at 210 cm long. There’s a personal mini bar and an extra seat should a companion visit you.
4. Qatar First Class
While the seating arrangements are roomy on these first class flights, at first glance, Qatar’s First Class cabin doesn’t look that different from most other luxury airlines on this list. However, the reviews are high for this one and it probably has to do with all the little things that can make a difference. First off, their first class in Al Safwa are something else in itself. There’s a mini hotel, a prayer room, a spa, duty free shops, and workstations all in a setting that looks like it’s from some high-tech future. The seats in the cabin do appear a little wider and is designed with more open space instead of secluded ones. Plus, there’s a bar onboard complete with a bartender and some treats.
3. Emirates
Not only does Emirate’s first class offer you all the benefits of most other first class airlines like generous leg room, tv, fancy food, and drinks--you can even get what they call “moisturizing sleepwear” where the fabric is said to release nutrients from sea kelp to prevent dry skin from dehydration and--for those really long flights--the pajamas help stimulate circulation, too.

Singapore Airlines is rated as one of the top if not the top luxury airline to ride in. At over $20,000 dollars, you can experience their world-class service on your way to your vacation. The cabins are more train-like than most first class planes designed them. You essentially have your own room with a bed and tv. The chairs are separate from the bed, something unique in first class cabins. Singapore Airlines become the first airline to have double beds. And if any of that doesn’t scream “fancy” then the room covered in rose petals with a bottle of champagne on a fancy tray doesn’t should assure you this is an experience reserved for the glamorous.

Our trip to San Francisco begins today in the terminal at Frankfurt International Airport. We make our way to our gate, Z25, where our beautiful aircraft is waiting for us. After a secondary security check and document check we board our aircraft and take our seat in row 53. Before long we are welcomed onboard by our captain, Molly Flanagan, who welcomes us aboard 'this beautiful Boeing 747, which we have the privilege of flying to San Francisco today'. We soon push back from the stand and the mighty engines power into life, before we taxi to runway 25C. We make a heavy climb out, before making a right turn to head towards Germany's north coast. We fly north over the North Sea, before hitting the east coast of Greenland around 3.5 hours into the flight. We are treated to fantastic views of the mountains in the east of Greenland, before heading across the enormous Greenland Ice Sheet, which is 680 miles wide. After we cross Greenland's west coast, we fly over Baffin Island, Canada, and get some amazing views of Canada's frozen north. We head down across the Northwest Territories towards Yellowknife, before the ground gradually changes from ice to rock, and eventually plains as we fly over Alberta. We get a great view of Edmonton, and Banff National Park. From there we head into the US over Washington which is cloudy. The cloud clears again as we pass into Oregon, giving us great views of the Beaver State. We head towards the border with California, crossing more beautiful scenery as we head south. We commence our descent and are soon getting a wonderful view of San Francisco. We pass the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, downtown and the entire bay area all within a few minutes. We then make a sweeping left turn over the mountains, taking a visual approach to runway 28R. We approach over the bay and touch down very smoothly on runway 28R. We then exit the runway and taxi into the terminal, disembarking through the forward doors and saying goodbye to Captain Molly Flanagan as we leave the aircraft. We head to CBP (passport control) and then through the baggage claim and customs, emerging from the airport on a beautiful sunny evening.

Our journey today begins with the drive into San Francisco's International Airport, as we pull off of the interstate and into the terminal building. We make our way through to check in, then to security and then to the gate at the compact International terminal. After spending a while watching the aircraft movements at SFO we head to the gate and proceed to board our flight for today, the beautiful Boeing 747. We take our seat in 53K and before long we push back and begin our long taxi out to runway 28L. We depart to the north on what is a beautiful day for flying, getting a fantastic view of the Golden Gate Bridge and downtown San Francisco, before making a right turn and heading inland. We pass to the north of Yosemite National Park and cross into Nevada near to Lake Tahoe. From there we enjoy further clear skies across Nevada and into Idaho, getting a great view of the huge salt plains in the north of Nevada. It clouds over as we head across Idaho, and make further progress across North Dakota and into Canada, where we cross Ontario and head into Quebec. The sun starts to get lower in the sky over Quebec as we hit late evening, but as it is midsummer it never fully sets and gets completely dark. We fly across Newfoundland coasting out to the North Atlantic, our northernmost point being over the southern tip of Greenland. The dusk starts to get brighter again after around an hour, and it is soon bright daylight again out of the window. Before too long we are closing in on the UK, flying over a cloudy Scotland and getting our first clear views of the UK over Lancashire. We see the Isle of Man, Barrow in Furness, Blackpool, Southport, and Liverpool very clearly, before heading down towards the Birmingham area and commencing our descent. We descend over Oxfordshire and get some amazing views of the home counties as we make our way to the ILS approach for runway 09L. We touch down smoothly 30 minutes ahead of schedule, and taxi into our stand on Terminal 2's B Pier. We then disembark through the forward doors again and make our way through the terminal emerging on a very warm summer morning in London.

The video begins at the gate in London Heathrow's Terminal 3, while we await boarding. After a short wait we board the aircraft and take our seat in seat 28L. It's not long then before we start to push back and receive the safety briefing. We taxi out to runway 27R, before making a long takeoff run, rotating into the early evening. We head west towards South Wales, crossing the Irish Sea and then across southern Ireland at our initial cruising altitude of 32,000ft.
We head out into the Atlantic for our 4hr crossing to Canada, climbing to 34,000ft, before making a left turn just south of Newfoundland to fly off the coast of Nova Scotia. Once we enter the USA near to Maine, we can hear the ATC for the remainder of the flight. Due to stormy weather in New York we make an extended hold just north of Cape Cod. We eventually join a long queue of aircraft making the evening approach into JFK's runway 13L along Long Island. We make a stunning night time approach, making a series of low right turns over New York before a stunning landing into a wet JFK. We then taxi into AA's Terminal 8, and exit the aircraft into a busy JFK airport.

We begin our journey outside Dublin Airport's Terminal 2, before making our way through the airport, pre-clearing US immigration, and boarding our ride for today: Boeing 757-200 N936UW. Once we are all boarded we push back, but the crew are unable to start one of the engines - so we return to the gate for the engineers to fix the fault. We finally push back and taxi to runway 10 for departure, where we depart almost 2 hours behind schedule.
Once airborne, we head across Ireland before beginning our transatlantic crossing, flying at a lower altitude of 28,000ft initially due to heavy turbulence at higher levels. We climb in steps up to FL340, before we enter a large area of further heavy turbulence which leaves the fasten seatbelt sign on for the remainder of the flight. We head down the east-coast of the US passing Boston and New England, before the cloud clears shortly before coasting in near to Atlantic City. We then get a stunning view of New Jersey and Philadelphia as we get closer to the airport, finally touching down some 1h45m late.

Once airborne, we head across Ireland before beginning our transatlantic crossing, flying at a lower altitude of 28,000ft initially due to heavy turbulence at higher levels. We climb in steps up to FL340, before we enter a large area of further heavy turbulence which leaves the fasten seatbelt sign on for the remainder of the flight. We head down the east-coast of the US passing Boston and New England, before the cloud clears shortly before coasting in near to Atlantic City. We then get a stunning view of New Jersey and Philadelphia as we get closer to the airport, finally touching down some 1h45m late.
