Indonesia has a long history of women leaders playing their part in building the country. Here are the stories of two extraordinary women building the country through social enterprises
Last year, the United Nations in Indonesia organized a 3-day workshop in collaboration with the municipality of Bandar Lampung and local partners to ideate, develop, and test prototypes that can improve waste management conditions across the city.
The Indonesian archipelago is constantly at risk of earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, floods and tsunamis. Located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, there is at least one significant volcanic eruption and one major earthquake in the country every year. A large tsunami can occur once in every five years.
With our new focus on the SDG financing challenge, it became clear we had to work differently. We sought out partners unlike ourselves, including commercial investors, and began working in a strongly collaborative manner, where organizational boundaries are blurred.

The Indonesian Waqf Board (BWI) continues to promote the productive management of waqf as an alternative source of funding for community welfare and poverty eradication programs. Meanwhile, UNDP is in charge of the SDGs. SDGs is a universal call that aims to eradicate poverty in every UN member state.
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), together with the Forum Kajian Pembangunan (FKP) hosts a discussion forum entitled “Towards the 2030 Agenda: Mobilizing Innovative and Social Finance” which discusses the role of innovative and social finance to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
