Some of these children are affected by issues relating to family violence, mental health and drug and alcohol use. The fund is available for educational, social, recreational and cultural opportunities.

What people have to say about UMFC
“It’s excellent… wonderful to be able to have this service rather than having to go straight to court. I am really grateful for the help and it’s like a big sigh of relief after I’ve seen you each time.”
Parent, Family Relationship Centre
“A wonderful service – thank you all. It made things so much easier and possible and gave me the time to gain my confidence to take the next step forward.”
A Foster Carer
“I have been made to feel very comfortable and very welcome. I’ve been given great advice and help and if not for HRCLS, I wouldn’t be in the great situation I am in now.”
Current Client of Hume Riverina Community Legal Service
“Our whole life focus has changed for the better, and I feel we are better people for it. Our relationship and communication has also grown as communication with one another and checking in with each other is vital. You have to be on the same page all the time in regards to your ability and capacity to care.”
Annalee & Craig, Foster Carers for 6 Years
“I honestly don’t know where to start, words cannot describe how thankful I am for all the help and support you have given me and my family over the past year. I was almost about to give up when my last phone call for help was to the Hume Riverina Community Legal Service. You guys made me feel like there was hope again and to keep fighting for what I wanted. What you do is more to me than just your job and I will be forever grateful for all you have done for me. I very much appreciate it and thank you again.”
Parent, Hume Riverina Community Legal Service
“You’re unbiased – that’s the main thing. You listen to everyone’s point of view and don’t try to decide who is telling the truth. We understand that you have to stay neutral and keep us focused on achieving what is best for the child and you’ve done a wonderful job.”
Grandparent, Family Relationship Centre
“I have found you all to be very open and non-judgmental which is great. I wish it had been around for my parents to help with us kids.”
Parent, Family Relationship Centre
“The best thing about being a carer is knowing you can make a difference in a young person’s life. At the moment we are providing a loving, stable and fun home for a young girl, and that is very rewarding.”
