Rebranding Fascism and Refinancing Mortgages: Andrew Murphy Harkins, Portland’s Nazi Banker

Since the announcement of Trump’s candidacy and his eventual ascension to the presidency we have seen a rise in white supremacist/fascist organizing and a level of hate crimes across the nation reminiscent of the 80s and 90s. Still, like a virus, fascism adapts to different conditions and takes on a different face in each new iteration: During the wave of white supremacy in the 80s and 90s, Nazis were much more easily identifiable. Born out of the punk rock scene, they primarily hijacked the style of traditional non-racist (and in many cases, anti-racist) skinhead culture, adopted a militant look, and took to the streets to commit acts of violence against those who they deemed as lesser-than. This then-new breed of violent white-supremacists were simply called “skinheads” in mainstream media, but to traditional anti-racist skinheads and to anti-racist activists they were and continue to be called “boneheads”.

Anarchist message from #Ireland on #IWD

International Working Women’s Day is steeped in the radical history of women demanding improvement in our daily lives and in our working conditions. IWWD dates back to 1857 in New York City. Women garment workers went on strike to demand a 10-hour working day, better working conditions and equal rights.  In honour of this strike, another was held  in 1908 by women needle trade workers.  They demanded voting rights and, an end to sweatshops and child labour. Two years later, the socialist, Clara Zetkin, proposed that the 8th of March be commemorated as International Working Women’s Day.  It was first celebrated nationally in the Soviet Union after the https://www.wsm.ie/russian-revolution, a  revolution which  began with a strike  of women textile workers.

If #Afrin falls … it will have been too late!

For more than 6 weeks we have had to watch the Turkish state attack and
occupy together with Islamist groups like ISIS and Al-Qaida Afrin, the
most western canton of Rojava. In this extermination campaign, the
invaders are neither deterred by the deliberate bombardment of civilians
nor by the use of chemical weapons. The Islamist mercenaries and fascist
Turkish soldiers leave a trail of devastation, plunder, rape and murder,
they practice an ethnic cleansing of the territory of Kurds. So far,
more than 300 civilians and many militants have given their lives,
dozens of villages have been destroyed and hundreds of thousands of
people have had to leave their homes.
