Young Street improvements project, Frankston

We've created a pedestrian friendly boulevard on Young Street between Wells Street and Beach Street.

The project has created a safer environment for pedestrians, improved bus services and provided better connections within the Frankston Station precinct. The Victorian Government is funding the project as part of the $63 million Frankston Station Precinct Redevelopment.

Project update - January 2018

Six lucky shoppers each took home a Christmas hamper filled with $500 worth of goodies from local traders. Thanks to everyone who participated and supported local businesses in the lead up to Christmas.

A further six bus routes began operating from Young Street before Christmas with a total of 16 bus services now operating from Young Street. Transport for Victoria (TfV) are currently exploring options to add additional services.

How does this impact me?

Shops/businesses

We are mindful of the needs of traders and aim to minimise impacts to them and their customers as much as possible. We will work with traders closely to maintain pedestrian access to shops and businesses along Young Street during the works. To do this we might undertake some activities at night.

Station users

Together with Public Transport Victoria (PTV) and Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM) we will enable direct access to and from the station at all times.  We’ve engaged a Customer Service Officer (Mobility Assistance) who will be available Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and weekends and public holidays 9am to 6pm.  If you need mobility assistance call 0402 351 491.

Pedestrians

We will work closely with our contractor to ensure pedestrians can access shops, businesses and the station during the works with as little disruption as possible. We will communicate any changes to pedestrian pathways as early as possible.

Buses/Taxis

We have temporarily relocated bus stops and taxi ranks during construction of the new bus bays and shelters. We will work with PTV to make it clear and easy to find the temporary bus stops with signage and a dedicated Customer Service officer on hand to help passengers interchange between buses, trains and taxis. This service will is available Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and weekends and public holidays 9am to 6pm.

Traffic

There will be major construction works occurring which will have temporary impacts on the traffic in the area. Temporary road closures may be necessary to allow these works to be carried out safely and quickly. We will inform the traders and community of any temporary changes as soon as possible to allow for alternative arrangements to be made.

Parking

In order to undertake the works, we have had to temporarily block on-street parking on Young Street and some of the side roads. However we will maintain access to off-street parking facilities.  The parking lot at 122 Young Street, Frankston is now a temporary 2 hour free parking for customers to use 9am to 6pm until project completion.
