Grass

Grasses are monocotyledonous, usually herbaceous flowering plants in the family Poaceae (also called Gramineae). They have stems that are hollow except at the nodes and narrow alternate leaves borne in two ranks. The lower part of each leaf encloses the stem, forming a leaf-sheath. Grasses include cereals, bamboo and the grasses of lawns (turf) and grassland.

Uses for grasses include food (as grain, sprouted grain, shoots, rhizomes and sugar), drink (sugarcane juice, rum, beer, whisky, vodka), pasture for livestock, thatch, paper, fuel, clothing, insulation, timber for fencing, furniture, scaffolding and construction, sports turf, basket weaving and many others.

Ecology

Grasses include some of the most versatile plant life-forms. They became widespread toward the end of the Cretaceous period, and fossilized dinosaur dung (coprolites) have been found containing phytoliths of a variety that include grasses that are related to modern rice and bamboo. Grasses have adapted to conditions in lush rain forests, dry deserts, cold mountains and even intertidal habitats, and are now the most widespread plant type; grass is a valuable source of food and energy for all sorts of wildlife and organics.

Simon's Cat

Simon's Cat is an animated cartoon and book series by the British animator Simon Tofield featuring a hungry house cat who uses increasingly heavy-handed tactics to get its owner to feed it.

In January 2009, it was announced that Simon's Cat would be published in book format. Canongate released the title on 1 October 2009 in the United Kingdom. It was later released in many other countries and additional titles in the series were subsequently published.

A Simon's Cat newspaper strip ran in the Daily Mirror from 2011 to 2013.

In August 2015, it was announced that Endemol Shine UK had acquired a stake on Simon's Cat.

Production

The series was animated with Adobe Flash software until 2014, then with TVPaint. The pictures are hand-drawn electronically, using an A4-size Wacom Intuos 3 graphics tablet.

Creator Simon Tofield revealed that his four cats, called Teddy, Hugh, Jess and Maisie, provide inspiration for the series, with Hugh being the primary inspiration.

Characters

Simon's Cat: The titular character. His antics, often in the quest for food, vex his owner Simon. He loves cat food, but also enjoys birds, mice, and fish out of Simon's koi pond. A significant amount of the humour in the book comes from his efforts to capture birds, mice, and fish. Simon's cat has not been officially named, though writer Simon Tofield says that Simon's cat is based on his own cat, Hugh.

Chris Brown

Christopher Maurice "Chris" Brown (born May 5, 1989) is an American singer, dancer, rapper and actor. Born in Tappahannock, Virginia, he was involved in his church choir and several local talent shows from a young age. Having signed with Jive Records in 2004, Brown released his self-titled debut studio album the following year. It peaked at number two on the US Billboard 200 and was later certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). With his first single "Run It!" peaking atop the US Billboard Hot 100, Brown became the first male artist as a lead since Diddy in 1997 to have his debut single top the chart. His second album Exclusive (2007) spawned his second Hot 100 number one "Kiss Kiss", in addition to "With You" and "Forever". The album was also certified double platinum by the RIAA.

In 2009, Brown received much media attention after pleading guilty to felony assault of his then girlfriend, singer Rihanna; he was sentenced to five years of probation and six months of community service. His third album Graffiti was released later that year, and included the top-twenty single "I Can Transform Ya". Brown's fourth album F.A.M.E. (2011) became his first to top the Billboard 200; it spawned the successful singles "Yeah 3x", "Look at Me Now", and "Beautiful People". F.A.M.E. earned Brown his first Grammy Award for Best R&B Album at the 54th Grammy Awards. His fifth album Fortune was released in 2012. However, after the release of Exclusive, Brown's albums have not been well received commercially or by music critics, with the exception of X, which received a normalized rating of 63. Brown's seventh studio album Royalty was released on December 18, 2015.

Apple Music

Apple Music is a music streaming service developed by Apple Inc. Users select music to stream to their device on demand. The service includes the curated Internet radio station Beats 1, the blog platform Connect that allows artists to share their posts, photos, videos and tracks with fans, and Radio which incorporates some aspects of iTunes Radio. Apple Music provides music recommendations based on user's taste and is integrated with Siri voice commands.

Overview

Apple stated at the WWDC 2015 that the service would launch at the end of June 2015 and would be free for the first three months of usage. After that, Apple Music subscription would cost US$9.99 per month, close to the economic equilibrium point for the recording industry estimated by the Open Music Model.

Users select music on a device, which then plays on the device via Internet streaming and may be saved to the device for offline access. The service also provides music recommendations based on user taste. While Apple Music's cost and music library are similar to other music streaming services, the service aims to distinguish itself with added features and content exclusives.

Google Play

Google Play or Google Play Store, and originally the Android Market, is a digital distribution platform operated by Google. It serves as the official app store for the Android operating system, allowing users to browse and download applications developed with the Android SDK and published through Google. Google Play also serves as a digital media store, offering music, magazines, books, movies, and television programs. It previously offered Google hardware devices for purchase until the introduction of a separate online hardware retailer, Google Store, on March 11, 2015.

Applications are available through Google Play either free of charge or at a cost. They can be downloaded directly to an Android or Google TV device through the Play Store mobile app, or by deploying the application to a device from the Google Play website. Many applications can be targeted to specific users based on a particular hardware attribute of their device, such as a motion sensor (for motion-dependent games) or a front-facing camera (for online video calling).

Grass clippings aren’t going away if you have a lawn. There is so much more you can do with grass-clippings than just throwing them in the garbage. Here are some ideas for you to try in your garden to put that grass to some good-use. 1.Add to Compost Grass-clippings are a great source of nitrogen and break-down quickly. A proper compost-pile requires a mix of green and brown materials. Freshly cut-grass is considered ‘green’, and so will need to be balanced out by the addition of some brown-material, like dry-leaves, branches, twigs or paper. When adding fresh grass-clippings, make sure to turn the grass into the pile to enhance aeration and prevent compaction. Microbes will break the pile down quickly and you will have a rich-pile to spread in a short amount of time. 2.Lawn-Clipping-Tea Liquid organic fertilizers are seemingly more popular year on year in the store, but you can make your own liquid plant feed at home. To brew a lawn-clipping tea, place your freshly cut-grass in a bucket of water and allow to steep. Beneficial nutrients like potassium, nitrogen, phosphorous, chlorophyll and amino-acids will leech from the grass into the water. After 4-days or so, strain off the liquid and use it to feed your plants by pouring onto the roots or spraying on the leaves. 3.Leave-Them-on-the-Lawn If you’re striving for a perfect-lawn, you probably remove your grass clippings every time you mow. But you’re actually robbing the grass of certain nutrients that it needs to thrive. In future, leave your short clippings lie, as they will break-down quickly, nourishing the grass and turning it a perfect shade of green. In fact, grass-clippings can add back-up to 25 % of the nutrients that growth removes from soil! These clippings also encourage beneficial microorganisms and earthworms that digest this grass and maintain healthy-soil. 4.Container-Mulch Moisture is always an issue when it comes to Container-Gardening. Containers need a lot of Watering. Add a thick-layer of grass clippings on top of your potting-soil to hold in extra moisture. Grass-clippings either fresh or dried, make an excellent organic mulch which contains high amounts of nitrogen, something all plants need to grow and flourish. 5.Livestock-Feed If your grass is cut with an electric or hand-push mower, you could use the cut grass to supplement diets of herbivores. I have fond memories of grabbing handfuls to feed the guinea-pig and rabbit as a child and how excited they would get. You would not want to use wet-clippings since they spoil quickly and can make animals sick. And 6. Layer-in-a-Raised-Bed If you are building a raised-bed or a hugelkultur bed, you can use a thick layer of grass-clippings to provide nutrients and build-up the bed which will use less compost to make up the volume. The added bonus is that the grass-clippings help to break-down the carbon rich fibrous material in a raised-bed. These were my 6-uses of grass-clippings. I built this grass hut up on a ridge. It's roughly parallel with the tiled hut and wattle and daub hut that are a couple of hundred meters away down in a valley. I built it on a ridge to get away from mosquitoes in wet weather. This project took 7 days to make. I looked for a spot and cleared it on the first day, built the frame on the second, and spent the next 5 collecting grass. The type of grass is Guinea grass, an introduced species here in Australia meant for live stock. This grass is difficult to collect in this dry forest and I had to climb further into the mountain to get it. The design is a simple pointed dome that's easy to build. The tools used were simply sharp stones and a digging stick. It's 2.5 m wide and 2 m tall. 8 lawyer cane strips were driven into the ground to form the ribs of the structure and hoops of cane were put over this to attach the grass to. Vine was used to tie the frame together and to tie handfuls of long grass to it. When the hut was almost finished a cap was made and lifted onto the top of the dome to finish it. This hut is easy to build and houses a large volume. The shape is wind resistant and strong for it's materials. Gaps can be seen in the thatch but not if viewing from directly underneath meaning that it should shed rain well. A fire should be possible in the hut as long as it's small and kept in a pit in the center.The reason the hut took so long is due to the scarcity of grass on the hill. If I had to say one tip for cutting the grass I would advise everyone to mow high. Most people like to mow low. They think it makes the lawn look nice, but if you mow high, it will do a couple of different things. It will allow the grass blade to shade the soil which will inhibit weed seeds from sprouting. It's also going to keep the sun off the ground so less moisture will evaporate and it leaves the grass blade longer so there are more cells to photosynthesize and feed the plant. The other thing I would say is mow frequently. You don't ever want to take off more than a third of the blade of grass. If you do, you take off more than a third, you are inhibiting the grass, setting it back a little bit, or causing it some damage that it will take some time to overcome. The other thing you want to do is make sure you have a sharp blade. Always keep your blade sharp, because if you mow with a dull blade it tends to tear the grass blade instead of cut it which allows disease and other pestilence to enter the grass plant. And, then lastly never mow when it's wet. A lot of people are tempted after a rain to go out there and mow their lawn, but its' really bad for the grass. It causes the grass blade stems to tear and it also allows diseases to move about the lawn and in fact other grass plants. And, lastly a lot of people like to use a lawn mower bag to collect the clippings when they're mowing. That's really a terrible idea, because number one, you have to put those grass clippings into the dump somewhere. But, number two, the grass clippings that you cut off of your grass contain nitrogen and it's actually fertilizer that will help the lawn survive. So, my advice, above all, is when you're cutting your lawn use a mulching mower and bag the bag, don't bag the clippings. So, those are my best grass cutting tips.

For three weeks I experienced the birth and death of grass. Now you can experience it in less than a minute. The grass was planted March 9, 2011 and I finished filming on March 30th. I purchased the grass at Meijer in Lewis Center, OH. The music is "Dublin 60" from the Studiocutz Music Library. This was shot using a Sony VX2100 mini-dv video camera in interval record mode. A half second of video was shot every 10 minutes and then sped up at a variable rate between 1500 and 3000 times the original tape speed. By my calculations the growth in the video is about 30,000 times faster than reality (check my math).
