Australian politics – a slut shaming disgrace

In Independent Australia, John Passant reflects on a week of insanity in Australian – and world – politics, saying Labor and the Greens must do better.

When trolling complaints to Vic Police are reviewed by troller Brett Guerin

Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Brett Guerin resigned on Monday following crude and racist internet posts (screen shot via YouTube).

John Passant has serious questions he would like answered by Victoria Police, amid the resignation of its Assistant Commissioner Brett Guerin.

McCormack elected Nationals leader as Barnaby ‘rests’ on the back bench

Cartoon by Mark David / @mdavidcartoons.

Barnaby is not dead; he is just resting on the backbench. Michael McCormack will have to accept that Joyce is the power behind the throne, I write in Independent Australia.

The decline and fall of the LNP regime

#BarnabyGate has exposed the reality of the ineptitude of the Turnbull Government and the end is near, writes John Passant in Independent Australia

Should Barnaby Joyce resign … and what about Malcolm Turnbull?

[Deputy Prime Minister Joyce (left) and Prime Minister Turnbull at the New England by-election, December 2017 (screen shot via @9NewsSyd).]

If a thorough investigation into the potential abuse of power and misuse of public funds in the Barnaby Joyce affair isn’t undertaken, then both the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister should resign, I write in Independent Australia.

There is no one to walk with

your profile photo, No automatic alt text available.

There is no one to walk with
Today
No one to talk to
Today
No one to pat, or feed
To lead, or be led, away
Past the dam
Damn my head
I miss you my friend
And your pushy walk me ways
I miss you my friend
And the feeding frenzy you made
Your white Golden coathairs
Adorn the wooden floor
You are here and there
But no more
Can we do the things we loved
I miss you my friend.

On Invasion Day, I heard Australia screaming

Invasion Day march, Melbourne, 26 January 2018 (screen shot via @Ruptly).

Calls for Tarneen Onus-Williams to resign from the Koori Youth Council are confected outrage because she dared to speak out against oppression, I write in Independent Australia.

Right wing nut jobs, Bill Shorten is no Jeremy Corbyn

Rightwingers think painting Bill Shorten as a radical will scare voters away from Labor. They’re wrong on all counts, I write in Independent Australia.

My poem, Burn, Australia, burn, published by Blackfulla Revolution

Image may contain: fire and text

Blackfulla Revolution have published my poem, Burn, Australia, burn. They say:

This beautiful poem does not mean that the writer hopes the country will actually combust. He means quite the opposite.

Fire is the bringer of new growth. Aboriginal people used it to bring fresh young grass to the plains, where they could more easily hunt. It was an important part of the cycle of life, and well managed and understood.

So with that in mind, please enjoy this, knowing it is written and shared in the spirit of renewal and the spirit of peace.

You can read that introduction, and the whole poem, Burn, Australia, burn, at Blackfulla Revolution

Trains, strikes and the right to break unjust laws

The weekend’s Invasion Day protests are symbolic of a growing undercurrent of dissatisfaction with Australia’s unjust laws, I write in Independent Australia.
