Mexico City (Spanish: Ciudad de México audio American Spanish: [sjuˈða(ð) ðe ˈméxiko]; abbreviated as "CDMX") is the capital of Mexico. Mexico City is the country's largest city as well as its most important political, cultural, educational and financial center.

As an "alpha" global city Mexico City is one of the most important financial centers in the Americas. It is located in the Valley of Mexico (Valle de México), a large valley in the high plateaus at the center of Mexico, at an altitude of 2,240 metres (7,350 ft). The city consists of sixteen municipalities (previously called boroughs).

The 2009 estimated population for the city proper was around 8.84 million people, with a land area of 1,485 square kilometres (573 sq mi). According to the most recent definition agreed upon by the federal and state governments, the Greater Mexico City population is 21.2 million people, making it the largest metropolitan area in the western hemisphere, the eleventh-largest agglomeration, and the largest Spanish-speaking city in the world.

It is bordered on the north by the United States; on the south and west by the Pacific Ocean; on the southeast by Guatemala, Belize, and the Caribbean Sea; and on the east by the Gulf of Mexico. Covering almost two million square kilometres (over 760,000 sq mi), Mexico is the fifth largest country in the Americas by total area and the 13th largest independent nation in the world. With an estimated population of over 120 million, it is the eleventh most populous country and the most populous Spanish-speaking country in the world and the second most populous country in Latin America. Mexico is a federation comprising thirty-two states, including Mexico City, its capital and largest city, which is also a state.

Street food

Street food is ready-to-eat food or drink sold by a hawker, or vendor, in a street or other public place, such as at a market or fair. It is often sold from a portable food booth,food cart, or food truck and meant for immediate consumption. Some street foods are regional, but many have spread beyond their region of origin. Most street foods are classed as both finger food and fast food, and are cheaper on average than restaurant meals. According to a 2007 study from the Food and Agriculture Organization, 2.5 billion people eat street food every day.

Today, people may purchase street food for a number of reasons, such as to get flavorful food for a reasonable price in a sociable setting, to experience ethnic cuisines, or for nostalgia.

History

Small fried fish were a street food in ancient Greece, however, Theophrastus held the custom of street food in low regard. Evidence of a large number of street food vendors were discovered during the excavation of Pompeii. Street food was widely consumed by poor urban residents of ancient Rome whose tenement homes did not have ovens or hearths. Here, chickpea soup with bread and grain paste were common meals. In ancient China, street food generally catered to the poor, however, wealthy residents would send servants to buy street food and bring it back for them to eat in their homes.

Brown rice

Brown rice (or "hulled" or "unmilled" rice) is whole grain rice. It has a mild, nutty flavor, and is chewier and more nutritious than white rice. Brown rice has the bran and germ, which are removed to make white rice. Any rice, including long-grain, short-grain, or glutinous rice, may be eaten as brown rice. Although widely believed to be superior nutritionally to white rice, the nutritive value of brown rice has recently been challenged due to concerns over arsenic levels.

Brown rice and white rice have similar amounts of calories and carbohydrates. The main differences between the two forms of rice lie in processing and nutritional content. It is a whole grain with a good source of magnesium, phosphorus, selenium, thiamine, niacin, vitamin B6, an excellent source of manganese and high in fiber.

When only the outermost layer of a grain of rice (the husk) is removed, brown rice is produced. To produce white rice, the next layers underneath the husk (the bran layer and the germ) are removed, leaving mostly the starchy endosperm.

Here, we tried the tamales, a corn flour stuffed with chicken and a green salsa verde. It was spicy and heavenly! After this, we went for more Mexican street food, and ate the Carnitas. They were stuffed with pork belly and organs and you can cover them in lime and lots of nice spicy salsa, very delicious! The street stands all throughout Mexico city are amazing!! After this we went to the famous coyoacan Market in Mexico city to try delicious shrimp and ceviche tostadas! They were so crispy and delicious! There are so many street foods in this video! After that we tried spicy and salty grasshoppers, and then moved on for more tacos from heaven! To finish the day, we had 2 more types of tacos. The al pastor tacos and then some delicious brain, eye, and tongue tacos from a street fast food stand. I met Carlos many years ago in University in Phoenix, Arizona, and he’s originally from Sonora, in Northern Mexico. Throughout University, Carlos and I would eat Mexican food non-stop, and we dreamed of traveling in Mexico to experience more. Finally we made this trip happen! We actually flew into Cancun, and then immediately drove down to Playa Del Carmen where we based ourselves. On our first day we decided to take a day trip to Tulum, a small town on the Riviera Maya coast, and one of the official historical port cities of the Maya. Taquería Honorio - First things first, we started off with some breakfast tacos at a well known Mexican street food spot in Tulum. I had a mix of four different types of tacos, all of which were extraordinary, but probably the best was the lechon, the roast suckling pig. This is a must eat tacos restaurant when you’re in Tulum. Price for my plate - 64 MXN ($3.45) Ruins of Tulum - 70 MXN ($3.77) - One of the main attractions in Tulum are the ancient Mayan ruins. It’s a beautiful place, and what makes it so incredible are not only the ruins, but the fact that they are right up along the gorgeous turquoise Caribbean coast. It was great to walk around, even though it was packed with visitors. Playa Paraiso - Next we drove over to Playa Paraiso, just down the beach from the Ruins of Tulum, which crystal sparkling water. Chamico’s - By lunchtime we were all very hungry, so we drove over to a place called Chamico’s a spot I had searched out on Google maps. Just from the photos it looked like a place I needed to go, from the relaxing atmosphere to the amazing fresh seafood. It was just as good as I had imagined. The restaurant was right along the beach, breezy, and the Mexican food was amazing. We had a few plates of ceviche, fried fish, and a shrimp cocktail. Total price (for 4) - 1,180 MXN ($63.53) Tulum, Mexico, is a true beach paradise, and it’s an amazing place to visit in Mexico. Thank you for watching! Plot: In 1917 Lt. Bill Gordon is headed for France when he meets and becomes friendly with Joel Carter, niece of the Asst. Secretary of War.
