The KAKOFONATOR PLUS #2 is housed in a black selfbuild wooden
box with a handstamped aluminium faceplate. It
works as a standalone noise generator. 4 oscillators with
different frequency ranges are controlled with a toggle switch for
activation and a pot for frequency control. 2 LFOs can each be routed
to modulate one of the oscillators (LFO1 > OSC1/OFF/OSC2) and (LFO2
> OSC3/OFF/OSC4) or switched off with 2 3-position toggle switches. All oscillators are affected by the
starve pot, that limits the power they can draw, resulting in a
stochastic noise battle. If the power switch (indicated by a green
LED) is in the off position, the black momentary switch can be
triggered for pulsed power supply, the decay of those pulses is
controlled by the starve pot, indicated by a fading ultraviolet LED. If a (boosted) signal is injected into the input,
it can either run through pretty clear or through a pre-amp stage with adjustable gain that is
switched on or off with a toggleswitch. A mix pot allows to blend the sounds and a global volume pot tames the output signal. Handmade in

one 3-position toggle switch, that selects the way the oscillator is mixed
(RESistor/Off/DIOde) witht he others. Two of the oscillators are modulated by one (the
same) LFO, that has a toggleswitch for fast and a slow setting and a speed and a depth control pot. The summed signal of all active
oscillators is routed through a resonant low pass filter section with a
3-position toggleswitch for mid/hi/low frequency ranges, as well as
resonance and cutoff frequency control pots and and of course one for the output
volume. Handmade in Finland by METSÄÄN.

Mentally marked by anarcho-punk GRMMSK
emerged as a new project in 2007 following on from his earlier
industrial field recordings project TOTSTELLEN. A short and intense tour
of Finland that same year and the first release under the project – PUNK ON KUOLLUT (Punk is dead) – was released. Releasing prolifically since, including several cassettes on his own micro label Totes Format, his back catalogue is a tome of heavy sonics, dubbed out experiments and shards of aural bliss.
In addition to the doom dub machinations of GRMMSK, the one
responsible builds handmade electronic drone instruments under the name METSÄÄN,
performing with them as Coldsore. GRMMSK is part of Helsinki’s
experimental radio show Bekola and is in the midst of releasing a new
12″.
London-based platform DARKFLOOR’s radio/podcast MANTIS RADIO has recently dropped in a unreleased GRMMSK tune called “RUN [down]” into their transmission.
Currently GRMMSK is putting out it’s feelers to find interested parties to release a future vinyl release…

Handmade bass-heavy drone-generator in case made from a recycled wooden
(drawer-)box found in an abandoned house in Lapland and a faceplate
made of black plastique. Get lost in sounds that slowly evolve
and shift by controlling each of the 3 drone-oscillators by 2 pots, one
toggle switch for frequency range (low/hi/mid) and one bodycontact that
lets you modulate the sound by touching it. Two of the oscillators have
an additional LDR, that can be activated with a toggle switch and works
best in dark places, when reflecting the bright green power indicator
LED’s light back into it. Dirty Drone #11 has a resonant filter
section with a frequency and a resonance control, as well as a shape pot
that “mixes” the dry and the the filtered signal in a way that is
subtractive in the middle section of the dial and of course a global

On the 14th of January 2017, in the coldest time of the year we will burrow into windowless depths of ORANSSI KLUBI (http://oranssi.net/)
in Suvilahti, Helsinki for a long night of drones. 4 projects based in
and around Helsinki will perform long and slowly evolving live drone
pieces. Prepare for a acoustic mass for black holes, opening your ears
and minds for a journey into the sounds of great voids filled with
infinite amounts of unknowable dark matter. Doors open at
19:00, the first act starts at 20:00. The playing order will be set on
the same evening. We’ll ask for an entrance fee, based on a “pay what
you can” policy and propose an amount of 3-10 euros. If you want you can
bring your own sleepingbag & camping mat for horizontal comfort.
Don’t forget that ORANSSI is a drugfree venue, furthermore we don’t
tolerate stupidities like racism, facism, sexism, homo- or transphobia

Besides reading and enjoying Bruce Sterling’s novels for many years, i think in his talks the actual ingredients of those novels are condensed and apparently even (somehow) accesible for a wider crowd. interesting fact. i wonder what listeners are actually doing with that. hope the “keynote” is NOT just another deadly embrace of critique. this is especially interesting, for all YOU “cultural drones” out there…redefining DETROIT TECHNO.

Prepare for red-tinged darkness and distorted noise! This is the whole
raw footage, containing just snippets of Lynx, Ari Nev & Aekre,
GRMMSK, Saxenhammer, Electric Kettle, Vojeet, H-Kon, Zombieflesheater. Only a few
minutes per artist and no audience footage. Much of the audio is
overdriven and distorted, and due to the fog and red strobe not much is
visible either… you should have been there!
