How it works
Collecting art and design on Artsy
If you’re interested in a for-sale work, simply visit the artwork page to send a message directly to the gallery or institution. You can ask about pricing, availability, shipping, and further details. Often, the more information you give the gallery about yourself, the quicker the response will be. You can also click “Ask an Artsy Specialist,” who will be happy to answer any questions you might have. There is no charge for making an inquiry or consulting with one of our specialists.
International art fair previews
Browse and inquire on works before doors open
One of Artsy's most popular features for collectors is our online art fair previews. Here, you can view what exhibitors will be bringing to the fair, inquire on and collect works, and view special content such as "Insider Picks." We preview more than 60 major art fairs including Art Basel, Frieze, The Armory Show, NADA, ArtRio, IFPDA, Zona MACO, and Design/ Miami.

The Art Genome
Project
The Art Genome Project is the classification system and technological framework that powers Artsy. It maps the characteristics (we call them “genes”) that connect artists, artworks, architecture, and design objects across history. There are currently over 1,000 characteristics in The Art Genome Project, including art historical movements, subject matter, and formal qualities.
Mapping the world's art
Works are given a set of characteristics
In the process we refer to as “genoming,” our team of art historians and experts assign works various characteristics. The result is endless opportunities for discovery and learning, connecting works being made today to works with similar attributes, including art made decades or even hundreds of years ago.
A System for Discovery
Characteristics are used to connect works by subject, style, and movement

Whether you’re a student, teacher, art enthusiast, curator, or collector, Artsy offers a variety of additional ways to learn about art and design.
