Alan Parsons (born 20 December 1948) is an English audio engineer, songwriter, musician, and record producer. He was involved with the production of several significant albums, including the Beatles' Abbey Road and Let It Be, and the art rock band Ambrosia's debut album Ambrosia as well as Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon for which Pink Floyd credit him as an important contributor. Parsons' own group, the Alan Parsons Project, as well as his subsequent solo recordings, have also been successful commercially.
In October 1967, at the age of 18, Parsons went to work as an assistant engineer at Abbey Road Studios, where he earned his first credit on the LP Abbey Road. He became a regular there, engineering such projects as Paul McCartney's Wild Life and Red Rose Speedway, five albums by the Hollies, and Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon, for which he received his first Grammy Award nomination. He was known for doing more than what would normally be considered the scope of a recording engineer's duties. He considered himself to be a recording director, likening his contribution to recordings to what Stanley Kubrick contributed to film. This is apparent in his work with Al Stewart's "Year of the Cat", where Parsons added the saxophone part and transformed the original folk concept into the jazz-influenced ballad that put Al Stewart onto the charts. It is also heard in Parsons' influence on the Hollies' "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" and "The Air That I Breathe", sharp departures from their popular 1960s hits "Stay", "Just One Look", "Stop! Stop! Stop!" or "Bus Stop". Parsons was also known to have swapped shifts during the engineering of Dark Side of the Moon so he could work entirely on the project.

The New School is a university in New York City, United States, located mostly in Greenwich Village. From its founding in 1919 by progressive New York educators, and for most of its history, the university was known as The New School for Social Research. Between 1997 and 2005 it was known as New School University. The university and each of its colleges were renamed in 2005.
The university became renowned for its teaching and its open intellectual environment, especially after it set up the University in Exile in 1933 as a graduate division to serve as an academic haven for scholars escaping from Nazi Germany and other anti-intellectual regimes in Europe. It has launched or housed a range of institutions such as the international think tank World Policy Institute, the Vera List Center for Art and Politics, the India China Institute, the Observatory on Latin America, and the Center for New York City Affairs. Parsons The New School for Design is the university's highly competitive art school.
Eric Norman Woolfson (18 March 1945 – 2 December 2009) was a Scottish songwriter, lyricist, vocalist, executive producer, pianist, and co-creator of The Alan Parsons Project. He sold over 50 million albums worldwide. Following the 10 successful albums he made with Alan Parsons, Woolfson pursued a career in musical theatre. He wrote five musicals which won numerous awards and have been seen by over a million people, and have been performed in Germany, Austria, Korea and Japan.
Woolfson was born into a Jewish family in the Charing Cross area of Glasgow, where his family owned the Elders furniture store. He was raised in the Pollokshields area on the south side of the city and educated at the High School of Glasgow. Woolfson's interest in music was inspired by an uncle; and teaching himself to play the piano. After leaving school he briefly flirted with becoming an accountant before moving to London to seek opportunities in the music industry.
Arriving in London in 1963, he found work as a session pianist. The then current record producer for the Rolling Stones, Andrew Oldham, signed him as a songwriter. During the following years, Woolfson wrote songs for artists such as Marianne Faithfull, Frank Ifield, Joe Dassin, The Tremeloes, Marie (French singer), Marmalade, Dave Berry, and Peter Noone. In due course Woolfson signed other publishing deals as more of his songs were adopted by leading recording artists, throughout Europe and America. He also signed a deal with Southern Music, where he worked alongside composers and lyricists such as Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.
The Alan Parsons Project were a British progressive rock band, active between 1975 and 1990, consisting of Alan Parsons and Eric Woolfson surrounded by a varying number of session musicians and some relatively consistent band members such as guitarist Ian Bairnson, bassist and vocalist David Paton, drummer Stuart Elliott, and vocalist Lenny Zakatek.
Behind the revolving line-up and the regular sidemen, the true core of the Project was the duo of Parsons and Woolfson. Woolfson was a songwriter by profession, but also a composer and pianist. Parsons was a successful producer and accomplished engineer. Almost all songs on the band's albums are credited to "Parsons/Woolfson".
Alan Parsons met Eric Woolfson in the canteen of Abbey Road Studios in the summer of 1974. Parsons had already acted as Assistant Engineer on the Beatles' Abbey Road and Let It Be, had recently engineered Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon, and had produced several acts for EMI Records. Woolfson, a songwriter and composer, was working as a session pianist; he had also composed material for a concept album idea based on the work of Edgar Allan Poe.

This video was meant to be filmed months ago.. but y'all know me.. I wanted to get this up because there aren't too many videos around where people showcase their full college accepted art portfolios- notably for RISD and Parsons School of Design. When I was an applicant, I found videos like this very helpful (at least for my anxiety at the time) so I do hope that prospective RISD and Parsons applicants find this informative! I applied to a total of 3 colleges in my senior year of high school, (Rhode Island School of Design, Otis School of Art and Design, and Parsons School of Design). All of the pieces featured in the video were sent in my college application, though some pieces are not shown and were only included in my Otis application. But my ENTIRE portfolio for RISD is up on here! ...

After showing early promise as a musician - learning piano, guitar and flute as a child, Alan started to take on the role of listener rather than the player. Although still working as a musician in the late sixties he turned his attention to a career at the famous Abbey Road Studios in London, where he was fortunate enough to have participated in the last works of The Beatles. He was assistant engineer on "Let It Be" and the brilliant "Abbey Road" album. A long association followed; both with the studio and Paul McCartney. When the Beatles split up, Alan went on to engineer such classics as Wings "Red Rose Speedway" album and the singles "Hi Hi HI" and "C Moon". He had a similar association with The Hollies on many hits including "He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother", and "The Air That I Breath...

Live performance in Antwerp. This series of concerts called "Night Of The Proms" ran for three months in Antwerp's 20,000-seat sports arena and other artists appearing on the same bill included Simple Minds, Debbie Harry, Paul Young, John Miles and Coolio.
This video started as the mad idea of me getting my 7 year old son Benji to perform live on stage with my mate Alan Parsons. I asked Alan if we could do it and he agreed that if there was time at the next concert we would do it in sound check. We ran out of time, Alan still insisted we do it. My son was walked on stage with Todd Cooper and sang the whole song through standing between Peej and Alastair and right in front of the Boss himself, he hardly missing a beat. The rest of the video just came out of my head, I decided it would be fun to make it look like Benji was travelling to the concert, then came the working title “The Journey” but it had to be different, not just normal Car - Bike - Bus. So I contacted some friends...... What you see here is the result of 4 months work with th...

In the 'Interview with a Legend' series RØDE Microphones' founder and director Peter Freedman hosts an intimate discussion with icons from all areas of the audio industry including Engineers, Producers, Musicians, Artists and Entrepreneurs. A musical pioneer in the truest sense, Alan Parsons is one of the most revered engineers and producers in history. Alan talks candidly to Peter about how hearing Sgt Peppers was a defining moment in his life and career, setting him on the path to Abbey Road Studios where he would play an integral role in such timeless recordings as The Beatles' infamous Let It Be rooftop performance and Pink Floyd's masterpiece Dark Side of the Moon. He goes on to discuss the incredibly influential Alan Parsons Project, and the future of recording. See this ...
Alan Parsons visited the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, in Cleveland, Ohio, where he talked about working at Abbey Road, the Beatles recording, the Beatles final concert on the rooftop of Apple Studios in 1969, working with the Hollies on "Air That I Breathe" and more.

We recorded an interview with Pink Floyd's Nick Mason and Alan Parsons at Sate of the Ark Studios a while back when they were recording a special drum sample library for Sonic Reality. Dave from Sonic Reality asked the questions mostly focused on the Dark Side of the Moon album and we have thrown in a stack of cut-away footage of the recording and preparation followed by a little chat about the drums recording in the corridor :-) Special thanks to everyone who helped in the making of this feature! Very rare footage from 1990 where Eric Woolfson performs the song "Freudiana" solo on Spanish TV. That's followed by an interview with me looking about 18, and Kiki Dee sings a song from Freudiana with Eric on Keyboards.

In this interview, Stanley Tambiah speaks mostly of his experiences working as an anthropologist. Tambiah became interested in anthropology during his undergraduate studies at the University of Ceylon. At the time, sociologist Bryce Ryan was setting up the first anthropology and sociology department at the university. Tambiah explains that what caught his interest most about the discipline of anthropology was the importance of conducting fieldwork. For Tambiah, fieldwork was inspirational because it allowed him to learn about a world he lived in but knew very little about. Having attended a British-type public school in Colombo, learning more English history than of Ceylon, and Latin “rather than my own tongue,” Tambiah saw in anthropology a chance to learn about his own society. He says, ...

But my ENTIRE portfolio for RISD is up on here! ...
