Joe Rogan

Joseph James "Joe" Rogan (born August 11, 1967) is an American podcaster, sports commentator, and stand up comedian. Rogan is the host of his own podcast titled The Joe Rogan Experience, a weekly talk show where he converses with people from various backgrounds. Also a comedian, he began performing stand up comedy in 1989 and still performs regular tours to this day. Rogan has worked for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) since 1997, and is now a color commentator for the promotion. In addition, Rogan has had roles on the television sitcoms Hardball and NewsRadio and was the host of reality shows Fear Factor and Joe Rogan Questions Everything.

Early life

Rogan was born in Newark, New Jersey. He was raised in Newton Upper Falls, Massachusetts until age seven, followed by San Francisco, California until age 11, and then Gainesville, Florida. He is of one quarter Irish and three quarters Italian descent. Rogan's father, a police officer in Newark, has not been in contact with him since Rogan was six years old. He briefly attended the University of Massachusetts Boston.

Steven Crowder

Steven Blake Crowder (born July 7, 1987) is a Canadian-American actor, comedian and former contributor for the Fox News Channel.

Early life and career

Crowder was born in Detroit, Michigan, and raised in Greenfield Park, Quebec, a suburb of Montreal. At age 12, Crowder began working as a voice actor for the character Alan "The Brain" Powers on the children's television series Arthur. He began performing stand-up comedy at age 18, and performed at the Just for Laughs comedy festival in Montreal. He acted in a number of films, including the role of Doug Moore in the 2009 movie To Save A Life. Later he became a frequent guest as an opinion panelist on television news programs. Crowder posts satirical, opinion, and news videos to his YouTube channel. After an absence from the medium, Crowder returned to YouTube in May 2013, and produces videos in partnership with Liberty Alliance, LLC.

Crowder currently hosts a weekly talk show, Louder with Crowder on WAAM in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Eddie Bravo

Eddie Bravo (born Edgar Cano on May 15, 1970) is an American practitioner of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu who holds a third degree black belt under Jean-Jacques Machado of the Machado family lineage. He is most famous for his win against Royler Gracie by triangle choke in the 2003 Abu Dhabi Submission Wrestling championships while still only a brown belt. Bravo is of Mexican descent.

Bravo's particular style of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, called 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu, has had success at different levels of competition, including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments, submission grappling tournaments, and mixed martial arts events such as the UFC. Bravo's style consists solely of no-gi jiu-jitsu. Bravo has repeatedly questioned the validity of the traditional approach to teaching jiu-jitsu with the gi for people who are primarily interested in mixed martial arts since it is illegal to wear a gi in most MMA organizations leaving fighters looking for sleeves or collars to improve their position when there are none. Some critics condemn the unusual names that Bravo gives moves: The Zombie (a technique for trapping an opponent's hand on the mat), Crackhead Control (a technique for preventing opponents from standing up to escape rubber guard), and The Electric Chair (a submission from Lockdown, a modified half guard that Bravo favors, that stretches the opponent's groin muscles).

Flat Earth

The flat Earth model is an archaic conception of the Earth's shape as a plane or disk. Many ancient cultures subscribed to a flat Earth cosmography, including Greece until the classical period, the Bronze Age and Iron Age civilizations of the Near East until the Hellenistic period, India until the Gupta period (early centuries AD) and China until the 17th century. That paradigm was also typically held in the aboriginal cultures of the Americas, and the notion of a flat Earth domed by the firmament in the shape of an inverted bowl was common in pre-scientific societies.

The idea of a spherical Earth appeared in Greek philosophy with Pythagoras (6th century BC), although most Pre-Socratics retained the flat Earth model. Aristotle accepted the spherical shape of the Earth on empirical grounds around 330 BC, and knowledge of the spherical Earth gradually began to spread beyond the Hellenistic world from then on.

Historical development

Ancient Near East

In early Egyptian and Mesopotamian thought the world was portrayed as a flat disk floating in the ocean. A similar model is found in the Homeric account of the 8th century BC in which "Okeanos, the personified body of water surrounding the circular surface of the Earth, is the begetter of all life and possibly of all gods." The Israelites likely had a similar cosmology, with the earth as a flat disc floating on water beneath an arced firmament separating it from the heavens.
