Family medicine

Family medicine (FM), formerly family practice (FP), is a specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages; the specialist is named a family physician or family doctor. In Europe the discipline is often referred to as general practice and a practitioner as a General Practice Doctor or GP; this name emphasises the holistic nature of this speciality, as well as its roots in the family. It is a division of primary care that provides continuing and comprehensive health care for the individual and family across all ages, genders, diseases, and parts of the body. It is based on knowledge of the patient in the context of the family and the community, emphasizing disease prevention and health promotion. According to the World Organization of Family Doctors (Wonca), the aim of family medicine is to provide personal, comprehensive, and continuing care for the individual in the context of the family and the community. The issues of values underlying this practice are usually known as primary care ethics.

Health

Health is the level of functional or metabolic efficiency of a living organism. In humans it is the ability of individuals or communities to adapt and self-manage when facing physical, mental or social challenges. The World Health Organization (WHO) defined health in its broader sense in its 1948 constitution as "a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." This definition has been subject to controversy, in particular as lacking operational value and because of the problem created by use of the word "complete" Other definitions have been proposed, among which a recent definition that correlates health and personal satisfaction. Classification systems such as the WHO Family of International Classifications, including the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) and the International Classification of Diseases (ICD), are commonly used to define and measure the components of health. Health is that balanced condition of the living organism in which the integral, harmonious performance of the vital functions tends to the preservation of the organism and the normal development of the individual.

Family

In the context of human society, a family (from Latin: familia) is a group of people affiliated by consanguinity (by recognized birth), affinity (by marriage), or co-residence (as implied by the etymology of the English word "family") and/or shared consumption (see nurture kinship). Members of the immediate family includes spouses, parents, brothers, sisters, sons and/or daughters. Members of the extended family may include grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and/or siblings-in-law.

In most societies, the family is the principal institution for the socialization of children. As the basic unit for raising children, anthropologists generally classify most family organization as matrifocal (a mother and her children); conjugal (a husband, his wife, and children, also called the nuclear family); avuncular (for example, a grandparent, a brother, his sister, and her children); or extended (parents and children co-reside with other members of one parent's family). Sexual relations among the members are regulated by rules concerning incest such as the incest taboo.

Leo King

Leo King (born 10 September 1955) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL).

Geelong

King, a local North Shore recruit, was a member of Geelong's 1980 reserves premiership team. A forward/ruckman, King had a short but eventful time in the seniors, all four of his games coming in the 1981 season. He kicked three goals on his league debut, in round six against Melbourne, at the unfamiliar Sydney Cricket Ground. The following week he again kicked three, two in the final quarter, to help Geelong secure a narrow three point win over Hawthorn. His only appearance at his home ground, Kardinia Park, came in round eight, when Geelong went down to Carlton by five points. King had a chance to put his team in front in the dying minutes when he marked 15 metres from goal, on a 45 degree angle, but missed his shot. Geelong's round nine win over Fitzroy was King's final senior appearance. He finished the year with another reserves premiership.

The PBA Leo Awards

The PBA Leo Awards, formerly known as the PBA MVP Awards Night and PBA Annual Awards is an annual awards ceremony of the Philippine Basketball Association to honor the achievements of its players for the season. The winners are awarded with The Leo, named in honor of the league's first commissioner, Leo Prieto.

The ceremony is usually held before the start of Game 4 of the best-of-seven finals series of the third conference of the season. If the finals series is a best-of-five affair, it is held before Game 3 of the series.

The Leo

The Leo is a statuette given by the Philippine Basketball Association to its seasonal awardees.

Introduced in 2003, it became the standard trophy of all awards given by the league for its season awards such as the Most Valuable Player, Mythical Team and others.

The statuette features a three-dimensional representation of the player depicted in the league's official logo. It was named in honor of Leopoldo "Leo" Prieto, the PBA's first commissioner.
