The creation of art in the geographic area now known as Brazil begins with the earliest records of its human habitation. The original inhabitants of the land, pre-Columbian Indian peoples, produced various forms of art; specific cultures like the Marajoara left sophisticated painted pottery. This area was colonized by Portugal in the 16th century and given the modern name of Brazil. Brazilian art is most commonly used as an umbrella term for art created in this region post Portuguese colonization.
The oldest known art in Brazil is the cave paintings in Serra da Capivara National Park in the state of Piauí, dating back to c. 13,000 BC. More recent examples have been found in Minas Gerais and Goiás, showing geometric patterns and animal forms.
One of the most sophisticated kinds of Pre-Columbian artifact found in Brazil is the sophisticated Marajoara pottery (c. 800–1400 AD), from cultures flourishing on Marajó Island and around the region of Santarém, decorated with painting and complex human and animal reliefs. Statuettes and cult objects, such as the small carved-stone amulets called muiraquitãs, also belong to these cultures. The Mina and Periperi cultures, from Maranhão and Bahia, produced interesting though simpler pottery and statuettes.
"The Brazilian" is an instrumental piece by the English band Genesis that concludes their 1986 album Invisible Touch. The song features experimental sounds and effects.
The band wrote two instrumental pieces for the album, the other being "Do The Neurotic". "Do The Neurotic" became the B Side to "Throwing It All Away" in the US and "In Too Deep" in the UK and was released on the Genesis Archive #2. It received a Grammy Award nomination in 1987 for Best Pop Instrumental Performance (Orchestra, Group or Soloist) and is also used on the Live at Wembley DVD for the menu music.
The tune was featured in the animated movie When the Wind Blows, which was scored by Roger Waters. It was also used in an episode of Magnum, P.I. called "Unfinished Business". The track was also used extensively by the BBC in their TV coverage of the 1987 World Athletics Championships.
Art is a diverse range of human activities in creating visual, auditory or performing artifacts – artworks, expressing the author's imaginative or technical skill, intended to be appreciated for their beauty or emotional power. In their most general form these activities include the production of works of art, the criticism of art, the study of the history of art, and the aesthetic dissemination of art.
The oldest form of art are visual arts, which include creation of images or objects in fields including painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, and other visual media. Architecture is often included as one of the visual arts; however, like the decorative arts, it involves the creation of objects where the practical considerations of use are essential—in a way that they usually are not in a painting, for example. Music, theatre, film, dance, and other performing arts, as well as literature and other media such as interactive media, are included in a broader definition of art or the arts. Until the 17th century, art referred to any skill or mastery and was not differentiated from crafts or sciences. In modern usage after the 17th century, where aesthetic considerations are paramount, the fine arts are separated and distinguished from acquired skills in general, such as the decorative or applied arts.
Sunday Morning or Sunday Mornin' may refer to:
CBS News Sunday Morning is an American newsmagazine television program that has aired on CBS since January 28, 1979. Created by Robert Northshield and original host Charles Kuralt, the 90-minute program currently airs Sundays from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Eastern, Pacific Time from 7:00 to 8:30 a.m. and 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. in all other time zones (live in the Eastern & Central time zones, and on tape delay elsewhere). The current host of the program is Charles Osgood, who took over duties from Kuralt upon his retirement on April 3, 1994, and has since surpassed Kuralt's tenure as host. Substitute anchors for Osgood include CBS correspondents Lee Cowan, Anthony Mason, Charlie Rose and Jane Pauley.
The program was originally conceived to be a broadcast version of a Sunday newspaper magazine supplement, most typified by the Sunday New York Times Magazine. The format was conceived as the Sunday equivalent of the CBS Morning News, which following Sunday Morning's debut was retitled to reflect each day of the week (such as Monday Morning, Tuesday Morning, etc.).

Street Art Transforms Slums In Brazil SUBSCRIBE: http://bit.ly/Oc61Hj THE slums of Brazil are notorious for crime, poverty and generally being rundown. But two artists are helping transform these areas - with a lick of paint. Jeroen Koolhaas and Dre Urhahn are the driving force behind the 'Favela Painting' project. And with the World Cup and Olympics both on the horizon, they believe this could be the perfect cost-effective initiative to improve the image of Rio's slums - where one in five of the population live. Their latest Brazilian project in Rio de Janeiro's Santa Marta favela involved more than 20 youths. In her native country, all you need to say is her first name - Tarsila - for people to recognize the woman known as "the Picasso of Brazil." But Tarsila do Amaral (1886-1973) is little-known in North America, despite her revolutionary art. Faith Salie visits an exhibition (now showing at New York City's Museum of Modern Art) of Tarsila's "cannibalist" paintings, which took the tropes of Western European art and turned them into something extremely Brazilian. "You can't imagine Brazilian culture without Africa," -Prof. Roberto Conduru, Art Historian (Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro). Watch his interview here: https://youtu.be/zqCYT5BTbl0 Roberto Conduru's research, which he shares in this important keynote address as a part of the 2015 Global Brazil Conference at Duke University's Nasher Museum, demonstrates how potent the African influence is on Brazil's art world between the 1960's & 70's. Conduru has an interdisciplinary approach to art history, building on visual anthropology, architecture, and religion in order to examine how modernity was built in Brazil. His recent book, Pérolas Negras- Primeiros Fios (2013), examines Afro-Brazilian artistic and cultural connections. The GLOBAL BRAZIL Lab at FHI at Duke aims to generate new co...
